Epcot

I wouldn't. :lookaroun Just kinda walk right past the place these days. Occasionally we'll go up and wander through the pond area and see the fish, but otherwise, the pavilion is one big store, and since we never do any shopping at Disney, we skip-a-dee-doo-dah right past.

Exactly. It's pretty and nice to stroll in when you have time. Even the resturants do not impress. I have had dinner at both the Counter Service and Sit Down..Sit Down was OK but nothing outstanding...Counter on the other hand was horrible.:dazzle: Nice view though.

The only shopping I do is in Future World. Gotta get my EPCOT Retro stuff.:shrug:

IMHO, this pavilion needs help the most.

Agreed this pavilion needs help, though Italy is the worst IMHO. At least Japan has multiple restaurants (sit down AND counter service), a large store area, an exhibit area, regularly scheduled entertainment, and a nice green space to sit/stroll. Italy has one restaurant (sit down), two tiny shops, sporadic entertainment depending on time of year, and... a fountain? With what this pavilion was originally designed to have, the Italy pavilion we have today is embarrassing. :(

Very true. I think Italy has been the SAME since 10-01-82.

Both could use some help.

Well, WS has been the same since, what, 07-05-88 with the opening of Maelstrom and Norway? Twenty years and what do we have? Two updated movies and a duck. C'mon! There's large amounts of space behind many of the current pavilions for expansion, let alone plots of land for 6-8 additional pavilions. You're telling me we couldn't get ANYTHING else in these last 20 years???

You are both forgetting the best part about these pavillions. Kaki Gori and Cannolis.:slurp:

It seems interesting that Martin did not confirm or deny the bullet train idea.:)

Sorry, I don't count the little carts as part of the dining options for the pavilion. ;) Though the name Kaki Gori always gets to me.

And, yes, I also notice Martin is awfully quite about the bullet train... :lookaroun

Yep.:dazzle:

It's the most "Stale":lookaroun part of EPCOT. Nothing has been built there in 20 years...save the Millennium Village. We all know where that is, right?

AND YEAH, they have the room. I think Martin has a diagram...I shall go search.

This is an interesting thread....most people are probably aware that Epcot was so underbudgeted and so over-budget at that that attractions that were planned were never built, although many of the building were (like the big building behind Germany which was intended to be their water ride)...BUT...it is quite amazing that since 1982, very little additional funding has been thrown into World Showcase except for refurbs. Granted, the original idea was to have each Country "sponsored" by a major endowment from a corporation -- but I think those days are gone...Disney itself needs to pump some money into WS for future development, but I'm pretty sure they aren't going to do that -- as it is, it's a pretty area that brings in a gazillion dollars in restaurant dining for WDW, while all the new development goes into the more attraction-laden Future World...I have a feeling WDW likes it that way.

Yeah I know. Actually, it says a lot about those pavillions when the snack carts seem to be the best thing about them, IMO.:)

1st bolded point: True...Every WS Pav was supposed to have a attraction or "draw" be it a ride, show, or movie. I don't think EVERY Pav needs one but somehting new needs to come to WS BESIDES a new IllumiNations or Parade (both would be nice though).

2nd Bolded:I have thought about that...Disney perhaps likes that WS is more of a "adult" :)rolleyes:) area. My thought is to keep that ideology and mature spirit in WS (and the rest of EPCOT for that matter) but if they want a "adult" section, they had it: Pleasure Island. I say, give us something new while keeping with the mature and EPCOT theme of World Culture. Inspire, Entertain, Inform. They can do it.

If they can dream it.

You'd be surprised at what's actually back there. Most of the area behind the pavillions is used for storage, maintenance, offices and staging areas. There isn't as much room as you think, there are buildings everywhere and each one of these building are used almost every day.

It's all temporary.:lookaroun

And...Couldn't they just move into Odyssey center? I have thought this out, can you tell?:lookaroun:lookaroun:lol:

If you mean because most are trailors the I can see why it would be temporary. But this was the easiest way to put a bulding up quickly and move them around if needed. But they all have to do with Epcot and need to stay somewhere back there.

Odyssey also holds a HUGE CM dining room in the back of the building along with First Aid, Baby Center and the Custodial offices. And the other trouble is that the backs of Test Track and Mexico are only about 80 feet or less apart backstage (you can see it on TT). Not enough room for a decent pavillion.

Thats exactly the point. I suppose its not a bad idea if the money goes into FW since it needs it. But still, the purose of WS was to help educate about the cultures of the world, not merely provide for a neat set of pictures and fill your stomach. Each pavilion needs something, at the very least a film, that showcases the country and tells a bit about it.

And raven, if they wanted to build something back there, they could. They moved/redirected a canal to build LMX at DHS; I think they could easily rebuild a 2000 square foot building 100 feet somewhere else to make room for an attraction. ;)

Ah...Still. I am SURE there is room SOMEWHERE.

Exactly.;)

How do y'all feel about the OLD plans to build two smaller lagoons on either side of WS to be able to add more countries? I always disliked the aesthetics of the idea but I'm sure they could pull it off in style.

Brilliant...and Canadian
In the Parks
No
Looking at Google Earth, there are very few areas that would hold a full pavilion, the areas beside the barge parking and beside France are the only two that really seem large enough. Other wooded areas between current pavilions don't seem big enough and/or have too many utility buildings in behind them. Even the two that are big enough would have to have some stuff relocated. Would it be a safety problem having a pavilion beside the IllumiNations' barge storage? All that pyro stored and loaded so close?

Oh, way back when when the budget was not the issue.  I agree the asthetics would have been interesting (hidden mickey anyone? :lookaroun), but man, room for 20+ pavilions... wow.

True, but in World Showcase you also need the country to sponsor the pavillion. Easier said than done.

The barge storage area for Illuminations also holds the watercrafts for Epcot. Directly to the north of it is the huge Entertainment building (characters, performers, rehearsal rooms, old floats, about a mile of sound and lighting equipment, and other vehicle storage). There are also many maintenance buildings there that hold chemicals and pyros.

Just trying to answer a few things. :animwink:
