im not sure what the problem is, the uk pavillion is exactly like where i live, plus i have mary poppins flying in and out every now and then, and theres a cheery old chimney sweep, showing little children his brushes (!:lookaroun) on every corner.the dustmen are polite and whislte a merry tune, and pick every piece of little up that they drop. the milkman actually puts the milk in our fridge, and the postman doesnt deliver bills. i love living here!

:D
thanks for pulling me back towards the magic 'cause I think this is what Walt wanted us to feel! I love the UK pavilion, British Invasion and fish'n'chips--not to mention the World Showcase Players.
I do know that all those from the UK whom I have met at WDW are extremely friendly and nice to be around. Did I mention that we LOVE to hear ya'll talk?

Hi, I am from Glasgow, healthy family with a good ticker, have never witnessed knife crime or a murder or know anyone who has- surprising:brick:. Every where has their young hooligans and that is a problem throughout UK (even the world) and not just Glasgow. I think you have been watching too many episodes of Taggart, "there has been a muuurder!!":ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:Glasgow is a great city, wonderful shops, museums, beautiful parks, tartan, kilts, Charles Rennie MacIntosh, wonderful golf courses and at the moment full of tourists who love our friendly manner, we don't care where you are from we will make you welcome (and that is in a good way!!). I think I might go and work for the Scottish Tourist Board:p.

Thanks for that! We are considering a trip to the UK in the fall. I was beginning to wonder if we should go! I've got two children to consider after all, and I'm not one for knife fights and drug dealers -.

Of course if we write off Europe, we could always go back to WDW.....:drevil:

You will have a wonderful time. The UK is full of great places and great people. As with anywhere else in the world, there are places you would not venture late at night... but I'm sure there would be no chance of you being anywhere near them anyway.

Be sure to touch the Queen. I heard she really likes that.

As much as I try to stay out of all things political and controversial around here, I just thought I would post the following quote from the July 2008 'British Crime Survey'

The number of violent incidents has fallen by half (48%) since 1995, representing an
estimated two million fewer incidents and around three-quarters of a million fewer
victims; violent crime is now at a similar level to 1981.

I am aware this is not the idea that anybody would get from the media, but that's the nature of the media for you. I'm a probation officer, and whilst I know the UK still has a lot of work to do, we are making progress. I suppose I am just asking my fellow Brits not to continually portray such a poor image of our country.

I have read the report you quoted and while I do not intend to derail the thread further, can only point out, that as I am sure you are well aware, the report covers reported crime. A trip to any casualty unit on a Thursday to Sun night would paint a rather different picture as would crecent comments by the head of Strathclyde Police. And anyway I thought 2005- 2007was the major spike in violent crime not 95? Or did I read it wrong?
On the plus side, your job is recession proof.

As for giving a bad image of the country, Ill leave that to the impression you get when you de-plane at Gatwick or the elevation of a reality tv personality to saint hood. Love my country just not blind to its faults and spiralling deterioration.

Give it a rest will you!! I think it's time to let this thread go, now that you have all given everyone such a horrible picture of life in the UK - thanks folks!! Some of us - although not blind to its faults - still love this country and enjoy living a good life with decent jobs and nice families. And before you say it again - there are good and bad things/ people all over this world (not just the UK). For anyone who hasn't been, please don't be put off by all this negativity - it's still a lovely place to visit.
Well chimcheree then, must pop out into the garden, the birds are pecking the thatch off the roof!

Dry your eyes. I hardly think anyone is going to be slightly affected by anything raised on a fan board. You obviously overrate the effects of your own opinion and its ability to influence others, I dont.

Stick to hanging primates

And while I remember I was talking about my country, not yours, and even on a bad day that would still be superior.

Let's see if I've got this straight. The P.M. starts drinking Tennent's early in the morning, and regularly get's into knife fights with the Royals?:D

Sometimes people take these boards much to seriously.

When I went to the UK Pavillion I thought this was not the UK at all (for where I live anyway) but I think a lot of the pavillions may be like this so it doesn't bother me really.

I did not mean to open a can of worms and create a thread for peeps to bash on the UK. Only part of the UK I've seen is London, and I liked it muchly. I was really only trying to talk about the fact that the countries in Epcot are meant to be idealized versions of each country or certain historical eras, not actual representations of what those countries currently look like. Consequently, people from that nation might not recognize the Epcot version as home when they go there.
