EPCOT Geodesic Dome

I long for this unobstructed view again!

so do i but they can neither move it nor remove it because when the contract between MGM and Mann's Chinese Theater ended and could not be renewed. so they either had to remove it or cover it. and the reason they used the hat was because when the contract ended Disney was using the hat as the hub for Walt's 100th birthday celebration back in 2001.

hopefully that will end all the people complaining about the hat because the reason they can't take it down isn't because they don't want to but because it is a legal issue

Can someone fix the title of this thread so it says Geodesic Sphere. Sorry, it just bugs me as WOL would be considered a Geodesic Dome

Where did you hear this? The Chinese theater would have to be "covered" because of a contractual issue? MGM does not own the Chinese Theater.... This makes no sense to me....

no what i am saying is that DHS was still called MGM when the contract ended and when it ended disney didn't want to have to take it down because it housed an attraction so the came up with a compromise that they cover it up because the earful tower and the theater were used a icons for the park

could Disney not just kill two threads off in one swoop....move the hat over to the right into the animation courtyard and make it the entrance to the new re-furbished adventurers club in the animation building....:D

You would just get a thread about how the Adventure's Club is destroying the theme of animation courtyard...and it must be removed.

I understand what you're saying, but it still makes no sense to me. Why on earth would Disney have to take down the Chinese Theater? MGM does not own the real chinese theater or the faux one in DHS that houses TGMR. Did MGM have some sort of contractual stipulation that WDW could only use the theater and tower as the logo as long as the park was called Disney-MGM Studios? I don't think so. And even so, they have repainted the earful tower to say DHS now instead of MGM....so what I want to know is WHY would DIsney be required to get rid of/cover up/stop using the Chinese Theater and/or the Eaful Tower?

Absolutely incorrect. There is no legal reason for the hat being where it is. The reason is that Disney did not want people thinking of the theater as the parks focal point, since they didn't own the the visual. The needed a park weenie that could be photographed and identified with Disney, not some other company. If Mann's wanted the facade gone...it would be gone.
