EPCOT Entertainment cuts

That would be true if the show was still the same but getting devalued performers (Equity vs non Equity) doesn't seem like a fair trade for the parks which are charging nearly $100 to get in.
I'm not seeing any sort of audition or screening process mentioned on the Actors' Equity website. I am seeing that they're not keen on members working for non-Equity productions, nor has anyone answered by they were unable to reach the same sort of agreement made by many other agreements that help to encourage membership in right to work states.

This whole cutting the entertainment at Epcot just seems really strange, especially in a year that has already seen so much cutting in the parks. In a year when we lost Countdown to Fun, Disney Channel Rocks, Mickey's Jammin' Jungle, wasn't there another DAK band that got the axe this year too?, Wowzer, American Idol Experience, now these 4 acts...is the bubble that giggle gang and royal merrymakers are in still in effect or are they safe? And I think it's safe to say we will probably see another ticket price increase before the holidays, right? Wasn't there two last year?
I understand cutting costs but I don't see the reasoning for it, especially with Epcot. When MM+ was rolled out last year, they quickly saw that Epcot did not have enough experiences for 3 pre-booked fast passes so they made this tier system so you would think they'd scramble to ADD shows and attractions to add to the Epcot experience....not take them away!!!

Why employ people who have a guaranteed rise in their contract, when you can hire some CP'ers who are doing drama and get more bang for yer buck? Let us be fair this is Disney and TDO at that the "Office where a Thousand Bonus' shine". One could infer that the only way they'll be making a bonus this year is if they get the costs back for MyTragic+

Which unfortunately was thrust upon them by Burbank.

This is the ONE time where TDO's reluctance to spend money would have been a wise choice to follow.

Cutting entertainment is an easy way to make some notable shifts in numbers. The problem is a lack of love for or knowledge about how theme parks are a composite experience, a sum that is greater than its parks.

You're just going on a tangential rant and not addressing my point. Even new Equity actors are cheaper than those with years of raises under their belt. Those types of union negotiated guarantees typically get offered to all employees in right to work states. Non-members can become eligible to join Actors' Equity by being hired for an Equity production and there most definitely would be a serious backlash if Disney was telling the new acts they cannot join the union. This union vs non-union issue just makes no sense and would be major news if it were true. Why Disney made the changes is bad to begin with and stands on its own. The strength of that argument is weakened by people just tossing in anything they can imagine regardless of how well it stands up to muster.

How many of these acts were Disney created acts compared to outside entertainers brought in on contract?

Are the performes themselves less valuable? The only difference I see between equity and non-equity is that equity performers are due-paying members of a union that can negotiate higher contracts for them.

Does that equal less cost for Disney? Heck yeah it does. No sense arguing that.

Will they be less talented? I don't know how anyone can judge this without ever seeing any of them yet.

Dave, if you had friends that were non-equity and were given this chance to perform in one of these replacement acts would you tell them they are intern-like too?

Like a few have said, I feel bad for the hard working performers that lost their jobs, but also for the hard working ones stepping in to the new acts.

Good point. Plus isn't it true that the only difference in an Equity Performer and a Non-Equity performer is that the Non-Equity performer has not been cast into an Equity production yet?

In other words, all a non-Equity performer has to do is to be cast into an Equity show in order to join Equity.

Last night I saw Push, Pipa and Wall-E at one of the local CM hangouts. All three of them were loaded (overflowing) with beer bottles and cans. Wall-E had crushed six cubes of beer cans. It looked as though they had been there all night and from some of the conversation I overheard between them, they were not at all happy about these Epcot entertainment cuts!

I also heard that Wes Palm had been there earlier in the day but was asked to leave due to a disturbance of some sort.

I would tell them that they were being used and that they too will be replaced when they cost too much for the company to keep.

Declines Much?

I did not see on your lists Rondo Veneziano, who used to play in Italy in the mid-late 90s. We enjoyed them very much and have several of their CDs. They were a quartet who played baroque-ish classical music dressed in period style, wearing Venetian masks. We loved to catch their shows, great music. Huge loss, in our opinion.
