Entertainment cuts

Without any added streetmosphere or shows, its just another amusement park.

Oddly enough... my local park... Dollywood, has atmosphere entertainment in every area of the park. A 3-piece string band in wildwood Grove, a larger string band on showstreet, a 50’s acapella group in the 50’s section, a juggler in wilderness pass, and miss Lillian the chicken lady improv in the valley. This is in addition to their theatre shows.

Even our local and regional theme parks have started adding stage shows and streetmosphere. Disney led the way with that early on and now other parks are following suite and Disney starts dropping them. It's really a shame.

I've heard really good things about Dollywood. My sister is moving to TN next year and we are planning to make a trip there.

Just chiming in with what 12 pages of people are saying - this is disappointing. The little things like the Majesty Makers, Citizens of Hollywood, and other Streetmosphere really set Disney parks apart. It's sad to see that being cut back yet again.

I also just saw Lightnin McQueen's racing academy for the first time. It wasn't a must-see, but it was nice and can't cost much to run.

But seriously, when it was first announced that the puppets would be infesting iconic Liberty Square, you should have seen the reaction around here. It wasn't just me. A terrible venue for them within WDW. Glad to see them gone.

I was one of the reactionary people. Below is my response.

There is no logical rationale to this. The Muppets do not belong in a land that is supposed to represent our country in 1776.

I thought how could they possibly fit the Muppets in Liberty Square of all places. Little did I know, it would become one of my favorite recent additions to the park. Definitely my favorite live entertainment. I was just here at the park today and despite being IP, the show feels natural in Liberty Square and respects what Liberty Square stands for. I'm sure many other reactionary people had the same reaction to the original announcement but have changed their opinions.

As much as I like to blame the C-suite termites for this kind of stuff, I equally blame the current average guest. I firmly believe that an unfortunately large number would rather have their nose buried in the idiotic nonsense on their social media feeds than live in the moment and enjoy these things.

The show was a total failure.....

There was no way they could upcharge for it. ;)

Tees, Muppetfied Declaration of Independence posters and Sam Eagle plushes, FTW!

Is it the cost of equity performers and puppeteers? How chintzy can Disney get... ugh.

This next bit will offend the die hard Muppet fans but I imagine a digital version of the show could be pulled off with relative success. It would lose some of it's charm but the puppets themselves could easily be footage. The logistics of it are sound. As is the cost, if that's all Disney cares about. Who's to say it's a live performer or an AA or a digital puppet or a digital video from our vantage point looking up into a window? If any show could utilize the lazy method of theme park design a.k.a. screenz, it's this one. Toss in the streetmosphere Town Crier performer and the show could play as normal.

I was gonna wait till you explained “ISTP” means?...but it won’t change anything

The reality is I don’t support the management of the parks...let alone some other parts of the conglomerate...but it’s obvious what’s wrong:

Nobody will say NO! They have no need to change and do anything for their customers when they are rewarded for every cut throat move. And they have been.

It's okay. Even ISTPs aren't actually ISTPs. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/give-and-take/201309/goodbye-mbti-the-fad-won-t-die 🎓 😂

And that's a good point about the customers. It seems like maybe that's starting to turn, though.

Don't forget the Living statues that used to be at Italy.

At least they are still at Disney Springs and at Epcot during the Festival of Arts.

Living Statues are a third party company. It’s likely they left because they couldn’t come to an agreement. I haven’t been to Disney Springs in a while. Are they still there nightly?

As sad as this is, it's completely true. If people are going to be buried in their phones while in line or walking around in the parks, why should Disney spend money on things like shows and streetmosphere? Most of the people don't notice them anyway because they're too busy taking their 5,238 selfie of the day or Instagramming their Mickey bar to even notice these things. It's the true Disney fans who appreciate the little things they're cutting. I grew up without a smart phone so the streetmosphere and little shows were something I loved!

I just retook it and I got the “defender”...which is probably the most consistent one...I have also gotten the “craftsman” before
You're probably right at that 50/50 spot in some of the categories.
I would LOVE to know how the Disney Execs rate on these. It might help us to understand them a little better other than always pointing at money. I loved Claire Bilby (?) for the short time when she was in charge of DVC. The changes made while she was there leaned toward making the experience better for the members. I don't think she'd be making these cuts to entertainment.

This is heartbreaking. This is my three year old's favorite show. She was even excited to meet JJ who was kind enough to give her an American flag after posing for a picture. She is convinced that Piggy blew her a kiss at the end of the show when she says "kissy kissy!". This along with the cheapening of Disney Jr. in HS is really a slap in the face to the talented puppeteers who bring these beloved characters to life. I have no interest in paying top dollar to get into a theme park that is mostly restaurants and gifts shops. I agree that I hope that Epic Universe gives them a kick in the pants.
