Did you know that The Mighty Ducks isn't even the name of a hockey team anymore, you hockey pucks?
Oh, and they are under new management as well.
Is hockey still a sport?

Having recently spent a lot of time at the Tiki Room on both coasts here is my thoughts on the matter.
The Enchanted Tiki Room UNM represents everything that is wrong with current Disney management. Right off the bat you meet William and Morris who are two crude agent types. One of the selling points being stated is why argue over something when look at your audience and what do you see: $MONEY$. That's right, all those people standing in line to see the show are simply stated as being $MONEY$. Is this really the message Disney wants to send to their guest? That they are only viewed as being a source of income and a paycheck for the company?
The preshow at least gives you a proper feel for what the show you are about to watch is going to be: rude, crude, in your face, with bad puns, jokes, and outdated pop-culture references.
Then comes the main show which is a mess and a half. As stated by the Cast Member in the pre-show you are suppose to be entering a world of JOYUS SONG and ISLAND SPLENDOR. Which you do for maybe all of a minute until Iago interrupts the show. (Which leads to a huge irony stated by Iago when he says "You all will have me to thank when they are lining up at the Door." When in-fact Iago is the number one offender as to why guest and Disney Fans hate the show)
Let's analyze the story of Enchanted Tiki Room UNM for a second. It all plays off the idea that this Disney Classic has become old and outdated and its time to change the show and update it. Well Disney continually uses the excuse in Florida for the reason we can't close attractions for refurbishments or Holiday Overlays is because their main guests are all from out of state or overseas on a once in a life time trip so they come to Disney to see the shows and attractions that they come to expect from Disney and will be Hugely upset if any attraction is closed or altered from the regular show because they will never have another chance to see it.
Yet here we are at the Tiki room with a show who's story line is THE OLD SHOW IS OUTDATED TIME TO CHANGE IT being played to an audience of guest WHO HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN OR KNOW WHAT THE ORIGINAL SHOW WAS!!!!! How does that makes sense?
Now looking further into the story of the show we have Iago come in and tell the Tiki birds they have to change the show but he is cautioned by Zazu that he can't toy with the Tiki room or he will upset the tiki gods. After not taking the warning Iago pushes his luck and is punished by UA OA the Tiki goddess of Disaster and sent packing. In order to appease the Tiki Gods Zazu turns the show over to them and then the Tiki Gods proceed to perform NEW pop music and a RAP version of the orginal Tiki Room song after just punishing Iago FROM WANTING TO CHANGE THE SHOW!
Iago reappears stating that the the Tiki Gods are the "Greatest act [He] has ever heard and that [the Tiki Room] is going to be a gold mine" further emphasizing the fact that all Disney cares about is $MONEY$. He then encourages the Tiki birds to Party and we begin the finale number steeped in pop music and rap that all brings out a vibe from the mid 90's further changing the show AFTER BEING PUNISHED FOR CHANGING THE SHOW only this time everyone from the tiki birds and gods to the flowers are joining in. Further more, when Zazu states that Iago has learned his lesson he responds by saying "That's what you think. Time is $MONEY$." The Tiki birds agree with Iago and to show they know whats hip they get everyone to leave.
So in the end Iago has single handedly corrupted everyone and everything in the Enchanted Tiki Room because all he cares about is $MONEY$!!!!
The only improvement over the show at Disneyland is the lighting.
It's sad what the current state of the show is but what the Enchanted Tiki room needs is not a return to the Original 1963 show but a new classic updated version of the show. If Disney was smart they would go through and update the music and references in the original show to have a more modern classic feel. Something similar to the way they updated the O Canada song to feel new and fresh while still be the same classic timeless song that it is.
However, the only way Disney will ever know that the current show needs to be done away with is if you tell them by stopping by Guest Relations to leave a comment or writing the company by email or snail mail.
It was embarrassingly bad.
I remember it as being a cute little show, it was always so much fun when the room came alive with birds.
I actually apologized to my family for making them go see it.
To me, Under New Management was a weak attempt at revitalizing a dying attraction.QUOTE]
The attraction was "dying"at both Disneyland and Disney World in the 1990s... Both parks decided to try and fix it, but their paths were complete opposites of each other.
Walt Disney World changed it first creating the UNM show..... refurbing the entire building making it all shiny and new.... but since the show is no where nearly as good as "Walt's Show" it is an EPIC FAIL! People walk out of this show even more than they did from the original.
Disneyland changed the show second, removed some dialogue and the Offenbach number all together..... also refurbing the entire building making it all shiny and new...... the show is STILL drawing people in with little in the way of walkouts.... people on many occassions are singing and clapping and whistling along with the show.... it is truly a FAMILY affair that crosses the generations!
What can we learn from this? While the original version was a tad too long, and admittedly the Offenbach song really does put you to sleep....the ROOT OF THE PROBLEM was NOT the show, but rather the terrible state of "decay" that the attraction on both coasts had been allowed to come to. Birds with feathers falling off, poor flowers with broken mouths, leaky roof, etc... these things went on and on for many years.... people do not want to spend their time in a run-down "dump"....
Disneyland took the high road in this case and it has paid off... Walt Disney World took "another road" and it is "what it is".
Do "I" think the Disneyland show would do well at WDW? ABSOLUTELY YES.... Having just been to Disneyland a few weeks ago I can tell you there were a suprisingly (to me anyways) high % of tourists especially from asia and europe there.... so IMHO this would be a No Brainer of a fix to the show at WDW....
I hear all the time on these and other forums that claim TDO thinks WDW Guests are some kind of brainless fools... I find this disturbing... Disneyland in some ways is so much beyond what I expected that it is really bothering me...my goodness Disney is Disney and I didnt truly expect to see such a dramatic difference. Dances at DLP, Canoe rides, subs, World of Color, shops on Main Street are actually different & unique, holiday attraction overlays, a lot more unique merchandise, etc etc.....
Being a WDW Local, I would love for the WDW Fanbase (whether you are from Florida or Antartica, etc) to become more organized with a more of a united voice....

Well the simple and easy things to do would be to create a facebook page with information about the current state of the Tiki room and what you hope to achieve or a plan of action. Then you would want to encourage others to write the company probably targeting Tom Staggs, Phil Homes, as well as other higher ups who run the Magic Kingdom and the theme parks as a whole. And to help spread your message reach out to other fan sites who share similar view points and ideals such as MiceAge and Disboards plus any other heavily involved Disney fan sites, podcasts, etc etc. A terrific boost would also be to write the creative minds who helped bring the Tiki Room to life such as The Sherman Brothers and hope that they in turn will support the cause and will publicly state their feelings on the matter to the community and Disney. Maybe write Dole and encourage them to sponsor the Tiki room in Florida?I'm in. If someone has any ideas on how to get this moving, I'd be all over some sort of organized effort to Fire the New Management. Anyone with experience on some of the offshoot sites, like Save the Adventurers Club, etc have good ideas?
Yes, I realize that even a well coordinated effort will likely not result in change, but I guess like most people united behind a cause, at least there is a very minor shot that our voices would be heard.
I was a fan of the original show since my first visit in 1975. Sadly, I noticed that by the early-mid 80's, attendance had dropped off considerably and almost everytime that I saw the show, people were getting up and walking out after about 3 minutes. While I miss the original show and still hope for it's return, I understand why they made the decision to change it. Hopefully one day, a happy medium will be met. That's a little over the top isn't it.
Now I will agree that the original version is better but even I will admit that I enjoyed the change when "Under New Managment" first came out. With all this said, I would enjoy seeing the orginal version brought back but more than anything else the Tiki Room is in need of a little TLC. If nothing else, shut it down and give it the necessary refurb and bring the sparle backs to Jose.
