News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

IJA’s ride experience reminds me of when I went to Uganda at the age of 16. Riding around in a Land Rover on all these dirt roads, being thrown about, up and down, literally tossed into the air at times.

It’s a mild thrill, a little bit of fear, and a bunch of laughter.
Yes, I just got back from Nicaragua and had moments that reminded me of IJA bumping up a volcano until the roads got too impassable!

Overall, I would say it's one of those attractions where all of the elements combine to make a cohesive experience like Splash. Still a great ride without the motion in the same way Splash would still be a great ride without the big drop, but those elements put them over the top. In the same sense, the motion of the EMVs and the drop aren't the most thrilling of theme park experiences, but feel more thrilling combined with the theming and make the sum better than the individual parts. Tony Baxter deserves a lot of credit as one of Disney's great Imagineers.

It isn't. The ride system is absolute trash. All it does it shake you violently back and forth. There are no thrills or excitement, just shaking.
That's as much or more than just about any ride system that isn't a roller coaster does, isn't it?

I guess Star Tours in particular is absolute trash since literally all it does is shake you violently back and forth.

The two rides would be much better served as dark rides without the EMV.

So you're promoting a dark ride system that does less than this? What about keeping this but with a more mildly tuned movement profile? The four corners move independently of each other so it's capable (and actually, currently does) a lot more than just "shake you violently back and forth".

Star Tours is far less jarring because the movements aren't anywhere near as abrupt.

Yes. MMRR & RotR show that you can tell the story with an immersive ride vehicle where the main movement isn't just 'put me in a blender'.

I think our big three burning questions are;

1) Will Indy be a clone or be reworked to includes more South American +\- animals or Dino’s (my preference)
2) Are there animal exhibits (seems probable)
3) What’s the scope of the Encanto ride actually.

If all three of those boxes are checked and Encanto skews Mystic Manor like, this land will be a huge win for Animal Kingdom.
No it's more like

Will it be built?

If so When?

How long will it take to build?

I love dinosaurs and the ride too, but I would much rather see it happen this way than with zootopia being crammed in there, it sounds like they have their heads on their shoulders with some of this for a change.
…hmmm…interesting takeaways 🤔
There will be uh, new animal experiences in this animal theme park yes? And not just random IPs from the region.. put that in World Showcase
So two places where it absolutely doesn’t belong
?

Pretty funny that people who screech over the idea of Zootopia (a movie with animals in it) being put into Animal Kingdom are happy with Encanto (a movie NOT about animals) being wedged into Animal Kingdom. Whereas many other people might feel that the real reason Encanto is being shoved into that round hole is that the movie, while a box-office failure, had a song that got popular for some reason. And of course representation had to be shoved into WDW somewhere...
The animals in Encanto are animals. The animals in Zootopia are humans pretending to be animals, poorly.

I wonder if they’ll update the old Sallah and Marion video before you ride
I’m actually glad dial of destiny bombed in this case so we can get an Indy ride that’s set during the peak of the original trilogy.

Maybe they can use footage that shows the young actors and then add new scenes in between and record new voiceovers to reflect a story that’s different from the DL version?

Oh good, replace the worst ride at WDW with the worst ride at DLR. I imagine they will replicate it without the issues that plague the DLR version, but the ride system/vehicle is the reason they are awful, not the sets.

Encanto & South/Central America over all the other junk? Absolutely a win.
I disagree with the first paragraph but cannot find fault with the second.

Well there would be no reason the ride would be set in 1969. The only reason why we got a 69 setting was because of Harrison’s age, but I loved that they gave us a full fledged flashback into his early years to contrast it with his current age.
Indy is a 1930s/40s character first, and the whole movie is about the sharp contrast of a 1930s hero in a 1960s setting. So it would be weird to have this set it in a period where he’s not at his golden age prime.

Yeah, for all the emphasis on inclusion, it’s really odd that World Showcase is heavily skewed towards European countries while a fictional African village is pushed into DAK with, soon, a Latin American presence. But
It’s almost as if that’s why there’s an empha—
…. nevermind.

Nailed it. I’m glad it was made, flop or not the Indy movies are doing incredibly well on Disney+ as said by Iger, so ignoring the whole franchise would be a mistake. The new film only reminded Disney that they own the Indy franchise, so I welcome that for the parks

The setting for Encanto is probably closest temporally to Crystal Skull if they want consistency of that sort, but that’s probably of little concern.
