For those of you interested....which I am sure is not a lot....Michael Eisner was at my school this afternoon(Kutztown University) for our speaker series. He is actually doing a full out speach later this evening at 8 pm which was only open to Seniors and people who paid a pretty penny for the tickets through the public.

A few things I noticed....One he has aged horribly. He looks horrible...balding and for speaking he was even worse. It was an open forum for questions. It was like a deer caught in headlights. He couldnt hear half the questions and he was very good at beating around the bush. He didnt bash Disney or anything like that, but he definately wanted it to be known what he did while he was there. Naming big name things like Pirates of the Carribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl and Lost and Desperate Housewives to name a few.

Nothing very exciting happened. I felt as a huge disney enthusist and a current Campus Rep, I had to go see what he actually did have to say. I actually had no idea what he was doing to date. Not like I care...im just glad hes gone....just my opinion though. Enjoy and please discuss anything necessary!

I know he has done a great deal for Disney and made it was it is today. That is why I didnt completely bash him. I am glad though that they got rid of him after he started making declines for the company as a whole. This thread wasnt intended to bash him, just to let people know he is still out there.

Saw Eisner on his own talk show a while back.

It was a pretty sad moment seeing him give up his "last" Disney-themed piece of clothing (his tie) to Iger... The show was cancelled for its zero ratings...

Eisner himself was a great man whose moves were both controversial and questionable. Some had major benefits for the company while others haven't fared so well in the eyes of skeptics, stockholders or other Disney related media. Considering the fact that he is one of the reasons that Disney dominates in the home media department... Paving the way for Iger to move Disney into the Digital Media Department with the help of another friend, Steve Jobs. It all falls into place... :animwink:

No, 9/11 declined the company. I want you to name something thats successful that wasn't started under Eisner's watch.

Iger has done nothing, just like he did at ABC.

And in turn Jobs becoming the biggest Disney stockholder, which is NOT good in any way shape or form.

If by doing so ruined the soul of a company

Oh come on. The 'soul' of Disney is still there. The magic still happens, daily.

Is it different? Yes, but in this day and age when every single thing is torn to bits even before its officially announced. And uneducated 'fans' of the company think they know more than TWDC does about its guests ('coaster park' for an example)

Eisner turned the company from being near a hostile takeover to one of the most diverse companies in the world.

Gee, you know. I guess the company being bought out and sold off in pieces to the highest bidder wouldn't have ruined its 'soul'.

Didn't the hostile take-over attempt occur after Eisner's "Disney Decade" and before his departure?

Iger has done nothing, just like he did at ABC.

Disneyland Paris - utill reciently - almost closed
Disneyland Hong Kong - Not doing well
Made Pixar mad and Pixar wan't going to deal with him.
Just to name a few....

Iger - Made a mense with Pixar, and now Disney owns them - great decision - even though Disney should have come up with computer anamation first, but thats besides the point!

but yes over all a good business man, but was starting to make is downfall way before 9/11 you can only have a fresh look on new things for a company for so long, it was his time.
