The movie is so different from the ride though. In fact, except for the name and the scene with the dog, Disney wanted to deassociate with the movie (so people wouldn't think it was another country bears). There was no castle logo in front of the movie. Comparing the movie with the ride is like comparing apples and pears...both have seeds but they are entirely different. Other than the basic concept of pirates, how is the movie like the ride? One AA is not going to ruin the attraction. Why not add such a character. After all, it wouldn't be a Johny Depp AA, it would be a Jack Sparrow AA...an original charater from Disney.

There are several similar themes. The "Yo Ho" theme song... the scene with the pirates whistling to get the dog's keys... the Redhead... various different allusions. The film is completely different otherwise - I agree - but therefore I would think this difference would account for less of a reason to introduce film elements into the original attraction.

I wouldn't protest if I saw a single AA in our PoTC somewhere, but I really wouldn't like to see it done at Disneyland.

First of all, I really don't see where the difference is. The attraction mentions no names, so there couldn't really be anything similar as far as character development. As for scenes, most of the scenes on the attraction happen in the movie one way or another.

Now about the AA. Sure, we can all say only one Sparrow AA wouldn't hurt the overall feel of the attraction, although we all know that if they decide Sparrow is going in, he's gonna have a speaking role and we'll be featured prominently (sp?). And we also know that as soon as that AA goes in the "movie fan base" will start crying for a Barbossa AA, an Elizabeth AA and on and on... That is where the problem lies. The suits are greedy, they don't know when to stop.

Exactly. And before you know it, everything in the entire attraction would be based on the film.

The movie is completely different from the attration. The whole story is different. Ok, they both have scene where two boats attack and a scene with treasure...it's a pirate movie, of course it's going to have these scenes. The plot is entirely different. Where is barbarosa in the ride? Where are the skeleton pirates? Wheres the love story? Where are the sword fight scenes and the little monkey? They are completely different.

Again, the attraction is not character-heavy. You gotta work on that, give it purpose. That's why the movies was "inspired by" the ride not "copied from".

Exactly! They're seperate entities, and should remain so.
