EE Test fit

They have a train on the tracks with test feelers on it; figure these are to ensure the maximum extended arm clearance is adequate. see photo:

Heh, people were talking about a pull-through in that other thread, and now here we are. Hopefully everything goes smoothly...

Edit: Just noticed that this train doesn't seem to have been "aged" yet. Thanks for the photos!

When they put the test dummies through Big Thunder Mountain in DLRP the dummies came back with no heads!!! Clearly a mis-calculation at some point.

Isn't that one of those untrue "Disney lore" things?

Because, as this shows, they would have had problems before they put dummies in the cars.

Is that the same hill because it looks like two different hills? Is one of them the 80 ft drop because why would the train be goin backwards?

Nope. It was witnessed by my dads own eyes - he worked on the Paris project back in the 90s. I'm guessing things are/were tested differently.

It is the same hill.

They would pull the train both directions when looking for fit. However, I don't know if thats the big drop. I'm not that familiar with the attraction.

I am sure we would have heard about some tragedy at WDW and how the ride is unsafe for dummies.... :lookaroun

That is the 80' drop and the train's not going backward -- the cab and boiler are on the back of the train. You can see the seats are actually facing forward -- or downhill -- if you look clearly.

Also, for what it's worth, the original Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was tested for clearance in the same manner as shown here and I promise that whatever you heard about Disneyland Paris' Big Thunder Mountain is untrue. Besides, water dummies don't have heads, they're simply big jugs of water that are used to simulate weighted trains, not to check for clearances.

I can't tell if those are the actual seats, or some sort of place holder for seats.

Though the ride has a backward section, so does anyone know if the 80' drop is backwards? Though, like I said, it doesn't matter anyway, since they usually test the cars both forward and backward.

Thanks for the confirm on the BTMR thing too.

From what we have deduced before (when the skin of the mountain wasn't on), the second switchback is just before this big drop, so it'll be facing forwards again.
