I understand everyone has an opinion, but many people, including much of the DL-centric fan sites, consider Epcot's version more successful only because you can actually see what's going on.

Wait, you are judging a ride 3,000 miles away by message board posts?

You haven't actually been on the ride, have you? And as for the message boards, I've been trolling Disneyland centric boards under this handle since the alt.disney.disneyland days of 1997, and I will respectfully but strongly disagree with you that "much of DL-centric fan sites" consider the 12 minute long Disneyland submarine ride inferior to the 4 minute long Epcot Omnimover ride. In fact, that statement would rank right up there with one of the most bizarre things I've read on here in months.

But the point remains, you are giving your opinion of a 12 minute long submarine ride that you haven't actually been on yet?

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is absolutely fabulous. Just like the old 20K Leagues ride at WDW, you put your face up to the porthole and look out and see an entire ocean of amazing sights, but now it's delivered with stunning 21st century showmanship with a John Lasseter budget. I've never considered before that I couldn't see anything out of that porthole. You just look right out there and see whatever you want to see.

I remember loving The Living Seas in the late 80's, and then it got rather lame by the late 90's. I bet the new Nemo Omnimover is a nice update to the thing. And the aquariums are wonderful. For what it's worth, the Turtle Talk attraction at Disney's California Adventure is very well done and extremely popular. But I imagine it's also lots of fun when you have already spent 20 minutes or so in an aquarium environment like Seabase Alpha.

First, yes, I have been on it.

Second, I share the opinion of many DL fans that even though the submarine voyage is a better mode of transportation than the Epcot clam-mobiles, it's still more enjoyable to travel through a real aquarium; plus the scenes are easier to enjoy in the less-cramped environment. There was a huge thread about this on MiceChat for a while, and the majority of posts said the same thing.

I'm not saying that the dark ride portion alone is better; I'm saying that the entire pavilion is still stronger than just the Subs. The Submarine Voyage is much longer, more elaborate, and a better dark ride than Epcot's 4-minute excursion. But it's still just plastic fish; Epcot's ends in a huge aquarium. (Perhaps it's too big; you can't always see all the sea life.)

This is all a matter of opinion anyway, but please don't accuse me of "judging a ride 3,000 miles away by message board posts," especially since you apparently haven't been on the Epcot version.

EDIT:
The special effects work better at Epcot too—when they work (e.g. kuka-arm angler fish).

But none of this matters. Just let it drop. Say it's just my opinion, decide I'm wrong, whatever—I don't care. I guess the attractions are too dissimilar to properly compare anyway. None of this is important, and I don't feel like having to keep up with this thread to defend my position.

Just let the subject die (hopefully not belly-up).
