Has anyone ever purchased earplanes for their child? my DS was ok flying on our his first plane trip because I was able to nurse him....his second trip in November didn't go so well. I hate to be the one on the plane with the crying uncomfort=table child. We are traveling again in May and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these...and how they worked out?

Thanks in advance!

I always have earplanes when I fly. Apparently, the tube in my ear that equalises pressure is blocked so I am in agony when we land, to the point where I had hold of a strangers hand on one flight, but since we've been using the earplanes, I'm fine. It's still a little uncomfortable and I'm deaf for about an hour after but it's nowhere near as bad.

I would definately recommend them!

I buy them for my DS every year when we fly to Florida. They really help him. I would recommend using them. If your child finds them uncomfortable, they can be removed during the flight. You really only need to wear them when taking off and landing. One pair will work for a round trip flight. Hope this helps.

When we flew on our summer trip to WDW last year it was my whole family's first time flying. My 9 year old son had major problems with his ears, to the point of being in tears when we landed at MCO and for about an hour afterward. We went back in December and my better half purchased the Earplanes for him at the our departing airport, they worked like a charm. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER! I highly recommend these to anyone who has discomfort with their ears while flying.

I agree with the other posts. I HAVE to use them during every flight. Before I discovered them, I was is sooooo much pain when landing, I was crying. I was at Atlanta for a layover and I was looking around the stores and found them. they were like $7, but I figured if they worked, they're worth it. And boy did they work. My ears hurt a little, but part of that was the earplug itself. It was a little tight in my ear. But after flying, my ears were usually clogged for 2 days, now they're clogged for maybe 1/2 hour. I definately recommend them, bc ear pain is HORRIBLE!!!

My mother had problems with flying for years and now she SWEARS by earplanes. They are her miracle drug...or plug? HA, I made a pun.

Also helps to use a saline nasal spray and some decongestant like Sudafed. Hope this helps!

Stormer, here's a link http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=80738&catid=10&brand=7846&trx=PLST-0-BRAND&trxp1=10&trxp2=80738&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-BRAND

We've found them before at drug stores and I think maybe Wal Mart. They are pretty easy to find. A little expensive but totally worth it. They list the price on that site as $10.99 but I know I've seen them several dollars cheaper.

Any drugstore type place will have them, brand name and store brand. I found the store brand worked just as good for a few dollars less. My son wore them for take off and departure only. We had two flights, each way, for a total of four for the entire trip, and they worked fine.

I get mine at WALMART FOR LIKE $4 OR $5

The info says that Earplanes are for 11 and over. Is there a child version?

Also, for really little ones, giving them a bottle helps. If they are a bit older, you can try giving them gum. Of course, this is just for those kids who experience minor discomfort, though.

DH won't fly without them. Has several sets of them in different places incase he forgets them somewhere. He has tried Sudafed prior to departure and it just wasn't enough for him, his whole day would be ruined without the earplanes. It's definitely worse with ascending and descending - he insists on direct flights with no layovers now because of that. My only concern for you would be the size of them. They may be too large for a child to wear properly.
