DVC Question

Hi everyone!

Ok... I'm wondering if when you're a part of DVC, can you stay any where on Disney property? Or must you stay in a DVC villa or whatever?

I'm sure someone has asked this before, but thanks for your help!

You can stay anywhere but the points to dollars do not make staying at a regular resort worth it. Every scenario that I have run makes a room at a moderate more expensive than a studio at a DVC resort.

That might not be completely true. When I looked at point values for using DVC POINTS IN non-DVC resorts or rooms, I've seen charts for the Deluxe & Moderate resorts, but not Values. I don't know if that means you can't use your points in a Value or if it that means they just don't publish it. And of course, I can't imagine anyone wanting to use their DVC points to stay in a Value. Maybe if every DVc room is booke during your travel dates, or if you're just a completist, with a desire to eventually stay anywhere.

But Yoda is right in that you will need far more points for a stay in a non-DVC resort than you would need for a stay in a DVC resort. Plus, unlike DVC resorts, the point value to stay in a non-DVC resort usually increases each year. Point values at DVC resorts are basically fixed, and they can't increase point values for a type of room for certain dates without decreasing the point value for the same room on other dates. Each DVC unit was assigned a value when first opened, and that value was broken down from dollars, to points. The points you buy represent a value, or more precisely, a PERCENTAGE, of the resort, and is represented as a real estate transaction; you own a (very small) percentage of that DVC resort until the deed reverts back to Disney. For DVC to arbitrarily increase the amount of points a room is worth, is to tell DVc owners "you own less than we said you did when you signed your contract with us" which is illegal.

I know, I'm answering a question unasked, but the OP's question usually begets the other, so I figgered I'd jump ahead :D
