Dumb Question about Pin Codes

I have never received a Pin Code. I hope to sometime in the future. My question is, what does one look like? I know they can come electronically or via snail mail, but will I know it when I get it? Is it obvious it is a Pin Code or do they bury it in the fine print of your Disney Movie Club e-mail? Or, does it jump out and say HERE IS A PIN CODE FOR A DISCOUNT?

Sorry for the silly question.

It's pretty clear... also, there seems to be no pattern as to who receives them. I actually booked into the Beach Club for March, this will be my first time ever staying on site... and I received a pin for 40% off the room. So it doesnt seem to be a loyalty system.

The snail mail ones you wouldn't miss. They're pretty bold. The email ones generally come to me from Disney Destinations and have something along the lines of "Special Rates and Dates for you" in the subject.

Have you ordered the planning DVD? There's some who believe there may be a correlation. It's free so it's worth a shot. Right?

Ours was a one page printed both sides heavy card stock that looked like a Disney promotional mailer. No envelope, just folded over twice and sealed. As you read about the usual Disney offerings there is some print about using your code in the yellow box on the front of the mailer to take advantage of the mentioned savings. By the "front" they meant where our adress stuff was. It's not blatantly spelled out "here's you pin code", my wife thought it was some public promotion for all but after reading further she found out it was indeed a pin code offer. When you see something sent from Disney sent to you, you know there's something good going on.

I always save my old emails...to compare deals. This is the one sent to me in June 2010 - notice towards the bottom it says "Be Sure to Have Your PIN Ready" and then the magical number. Weird thing - the codes and deals can differ for the same period. My friend got what looked like the EXACT same email, but his was for the same range of weeks, but 20% for all weeks.

I don't think so...I think the closest to a discount for the Cruise lines is this (recently released from Mousemisers):

Disney Cruise, who has long been against last minute cruise deals, is joining the rest of the cruise industry, somewhat. Historically, if a cruise has not been selling well, and is close to the sail date, Disney will offer the cruise at substantial discounts to Disney Cast Members as a perk of working for Disney. This fills up the ships, gets cast members onboard experiencing the cruise line and keeps rates for normal guests high, as no last minute deals are made available. This is about to change (again, somewhat).
Beginning later in January, 2011, you may notice new stateroom categories when you go online to get a price or make a booking for Disney Cruise sailings within the final payment period (typically within 75 days of departure date).
When offered, these new categories will randomly appear with select sailings at the discretion of Disney Cruise Line operations. If offered, here’s what you will see online:
  • Inside Stateroom with Restrictions (GTY IGT)
  • Oceanview Stateroom with Restrictions (GTY OGT)
  • Verandah Stateroom with Restrictions (GTY VGT)
While these categories may present a great rate for guests who are flexible with their stateroom location, it is important to ensure guests fully understand each and every restriction before confirming a reservation.
Due to the restrictions associated with these categories, guests with specific stateroom requests or unconfirmed travelling party information should book within the regular, un-restricted stateroom categories.
Here are important details you need to know about the Special Restriction Staterooms:
  • You will not be able to select a stateroom number or make special requests as to stateroom location. The stateroom is assigned at the discretion of Disney Cruise Line within a week of cruise departure. The only guarantee will be Inside, Outside or Verandah (based on the bookable category code listed).
  • This applies to new bookings only. Existing reservations cannot be modified to these new categories.
  • Full payment is due at time of booking. Booking holds are not permitted.
  • Reservation is non-refundable.
  • Reservation and applied payment is non-transferable.
  • Full legal names and birthdates for all stateroom occupants are required at time of booking.
  • Name changes after the reservation number is confirmed will not be permitted.
  • Sail date, stateroom category and cruise itinerary changes are not permitted once a reservation number is confirmed.
  • Not combinable with any discount or promotional offers, with the exception of $25 onboard credit for bookings made on Disney online booking engine and Disney VISA benefits.
  • The “Verandah – VGT” category allows for a maximum of four stateroom occupants.
  • Restrictions and booking rules are subject to change. Please review the complete list of restrictions that accompany the category when it appears online.
No pricing or discount information is given at this time, but it appears, based on the strict requirements, that the prices offers will be substantially lower than other available staterooms. If you don’t care where your stateroom is located, or the exact stateroom type, this may be a great way to get a great deal on a last minute Disney Cruise. We will keep you updated with any further information and possible prices/savings once the room options start appearing.

I have gotten some that have the following subject lines:

A Magical Disney Deal ____ Family!
or
A Delicious Dining Deal for the ___ Family!

My spouse and I both have signed up for member names on the Disney website and ordered the dvd and free maps and now he gets them at his email. I only get them at my email with my parents last name after inviting them on a trip once:veryconfu Luckily, I have called Disney and after explaining they have let me use it.
Good luck to everyone:)

Thanks to everyone for sharing this info. I'm glad because it means I probably haven't missed one, but I'm sad because I've never gotten one.

I have signed up for everything Disney on their web sites (Movie club, planning DVD, maps, DVC info, tried to join Mom's Panel (yes I know I'm a dad) etc.) and no Pin Code! I'll keep looking though, maybe someday............

I think there most certainly is a method to the madness. Here's an article I wrote on increasing your chances of receiving a PIN code:

The PIN codes are just a targeted discount. So there is method to their madness, but we as the consumer don't know what it is. Be it sending discounts to people who haven't visited in a while (as Tom theorized in his link), or sending a discount for Deluxe to someone who normally stays Value, whatever. It is there way of getting a target audience down at a certain time to fill a certain need. So theory would follow the better idea Disney has of who you are and your habits, the more targeted the discounts will be.

Personally, I have gotten PIN codes when I haven't booked a trip for a while. Or when they have been booked under other names. And then I get a few for the same promotion, one or two via snail mail, and one via email. And then if I use them, nothing for a while. It may not say PIN code on the mailing, but if it mentions a discount, and has a 12-16 digit long code on it, thats a PIN code.

I received on this week via email that seems to be for Florida Residents. I have been logging on and checking for new Florida Resident rates on the website lately, but not booking anything. Maybe that is why I received one.

Good reason to beleive that pin codes are attached to the Panning DVD (to some extent). I just last week orderd the new DVD. I sent one to us at home and also sent one to my daughter at college. When i ordered hers i put my email...and to my surprise I got an email pin code in her name yesterday!! Just called and it was of no help to our current reservation for August but it was worth a try.

Good article. I too ordered maps and a dvd, then I booked a trip. I don't make ADR's but I do go to WDW web site frequently and plug in dates I think I want, just to look at pricing and resorts. I get frequent PIN codes, all via email, addressed to the -------- family but with my name as the lead. Try it, you'll like it!
