All these stories remind me of the time I was lucky enough to be on a bus by myself with the bis driver. She asked if I had seen that big arch that the DME buses go under on the way into WDW. "Yes". Then she told me that from some of the things she'd seen, she'd decided that that arch has special powers that suck the brains out of some guests! Off-hand the only thing I really remember is the time some guests stopped me on the boardwalk and pointed to the Beach Club. "Is that the Grand Floridian?" they asked me. When I told them that no, that was the Beach Club and told them where the GF was, they decided "No, I really think that's the Grand Floridian." Ummm, then why did you bother asking?

A few years ago we were on Big Thunder when it was clear that the boy around 8 was terrified to ride. Mom made him ride anyways. Mom was quite larger that the little boy so obviously the lap bar wasn’t snug on the boy. As the ride went the boy slowly slumped down in his seat. He slid so low that his head disappeared, we were sitting behind them. His mom kept trying to get him to sit up the entire ride. The ride ended and nothing happened but it could have ended much worse. Why force your kid to ride? It ruins the experience for you, the child and other guests, and could potentially cause an injury.

It’s like when people drag their scared children on Haunted Masion, you’re just setting your self up for failure and it ruins the experience for everyone.

I just saw a snippet of some conference about how they are blaming the Tide Pods because they look like candy...

Blaming the Tide Pod, like the Tide Pod is responsible for the kid eating it. No, common sense is. The kids have none. And with adults blaming the object and not the kids...just why.

It's because one of those social media blogger idiots named Logan Paul tweeted that for every retweet, he'd eat a Tide Pod. The guy had been suspended from YouTube due to poor judgement.

The simple answer is: It's easier to point fingers and blame than it is to look at one's self and except responsibility!

Wow. I just read Fahrenheit 451. (It's a book my daughter has to read for English. I promised myself that I would read every book my children have to read so we can talk about them.) It's so powerful and, sadly, so true for today's society that I finished it in one night.

Like we've all said, it's disheartening when I see this at WDW since I feel that people are missing out on being there. It's also so frustrating as an educator to only see the tops of my students' heads when I try to teach. I ended up purchasing a plastic shoe holder for them to put their phones in until the end of class just so I can have their full attention. Unfortunately, my administration is openly pushing Google products and, like many districts, is giving each child their own chrome book. I guess kids will have more time to enjoy their social media and games since Google translate, copy & paste will be acceptable work.

Sorry for the rant. It just seems like nobody wants to look around and enjoy/appreciate where they are anymore (like at WDW) and nobody wants to learn anymore. At least they'll get good Instagram pics at WDW and they'll get good grades - there just won't be any magical memories or learning to back it all up.

Well Farenheit 451 is a very short book so I sure hope you would of managed to read it in one night as a teacher.

Your entire rent about technology and students getting chrome books are very out of place and unneeded. What? You want us to go back to having typewriters and using a dictionary to look something up? Technology makes life better. Disney couldn’t do half the things it does today without modern day tech.

Stop acting like technology and phones are the downfall of our civilization. What an overreaction.

LITTLE kids eating them because they look like candy is one thing. Teen and older kids eating it because it is a "challenge" make me want to raise the voting age to at least 43.

My theory (other then the water thing) is that it can be narrowed down to the entitlement thing. There no longer is concern about others besides ourselves. It has manifested itself in the actions of government and the public at large. I should not have to be concerned about anything, I'm special, people have to yield to me, I don't have to use common sense or do anything for myself. I certainly do not have to be concerned about others. I will just demand that the red sea part and then walk to the other side. I'm worth it.

It's certainly that way in traffic situations. I have never seen so many bone head moves as I have in the last few years. It can translate to so many things. Step in front of a stroller or ETV and get hit... the response is why can't they be more careful. Or if I open my car door into the path of an oncoming vehicle it's their fault that my drivers door is now in a separate county from the rest of my car. It's always someone elses job to be alert and care, but, only when it is about themselves not others.

I hope that we snap out of it as a society soon, but, I'm not really thinking it will in what is left of my lifetime.

I agree completely. I am from England and I hear 'Somebody should do something about this' just about every day. Very few people seem to have enough character to do anything for themselves.

The dumb idea to climb Mexico's Pyramid..
The one that got big attention..

And then there is this one..

We now have this sign due to that reason...

Interesting to me how things can remain the same for so long until one instance is brought to light. This pavilion did not have a no climbing sign for over 30 years. Now it will be there for as long as the building stands.

That's not necessary true, I'm young and don't have any social media, and really only use my......

Your personal behavior in no way contradicts Disney4family's post offering a bonafide generalization about societal trends. Thus, no need to try and contradict that poster.

Sorry second hand translation: Friends got back from WDW, one of their stories.
They were on resort monorail line. A dad, two young kids and mom were riding as the same card with my friends. The dad would get out at each stop to let people off , full ride. He would get back on. On the contemporary, something caught his eye, and he had to take a picture, but took too long and the monorail left to the TTC. Sounds like the kids freaked out that they would never see their dad again.
They themselves hadn't picked their brains back up at the gate, they spent almost a half hour looking for their mini van, and then remembered they had a rental, and had to call the rental company to remember what the car was and the licence plate so they could find it.

Are they literally carrying a park bench somewhere else??
Yup, they've take a bench from the center of the hub and carried it to the entrance of Frontierland, I'm guessing by the light, it's near parade time and they probably set the bench up on the curb there so they could get front row seats lol

Common occurence:

Two days ago at MK I saw a girl who appeared to be about seven walking on the railings in line for Splash Mountain while her father held the tips of her fingers. Not her whole hand; just her finger tips. That girl was lucky if she didn't fall of and crack her head open, and the father was a moron.

Totally agree. The number of times pedestrians just walk out into the road at a crossing and nearly get run over. It usually seems to be the younger generation who feel it is a drivers responsibility not to hit somebody not the pedestrian.

Older people mostly stop and look before crossing, probably due to warnings that used to be on television years ago.
