Meanwhile the Japanese and other Disney parks in Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland are really loving the character.
I hear the same about Tokyo. I'm not sure he is popular in DLP though. He is pushed hard, with his own shop on MS - where they tell his silly backstory, and a position on the last parade float between Donald and Mickey. But nobody seems to care.

We must have heard a half dozen people on our last trip say something like "Who the h*** is this?" when looking at the stupid bear. It just seems so out of place at Disney with no real reason behind it. I'd probably think it was out of place even with a support base under the character.

Not really so sure about that. I visit Disneyland Paris several times a year and I've seen him maybe once or twice and the merchandise that is available isn't that great. Can't say I've ever seen anyone carrying a Duffy around the Paris parks either  Maybe I'm just missing something but my interpretation is that he ain't doing so great in France either. Which is a shame. I think he's pretty cute.

Duffy no longer meets regularly in Paris the OP or wherever they plagiarized must be ignorant of that fact

If he's popular in Japan, then you know there's a problem with him... Good riddance, he's a shoehorn, value engineered character that has no business in any of the parks. Wikibear would be more fun.

We call him Duffy The Disney Sales and Marketing Bear in our household...and yet...we own several Duffies. I know, I know. The hazards of having small children around, I guess. Both my boys (who are both pre-kindergarten age) like him a lot.

That said, should this be true, it's not going to be a huge loss. I do think the actual bear itself is pretty cute, but it was such an obvious, transparent, cynical move to add him to the parks in the first place.

My wife and I always take a picture every trip with Duffy with disgusted looks on our faces. Like utter disgust. I feel like it was our little silent protest to a character that was totally made up to sell merchandise. You can't just make up the fact that Mickey Mouse has this beloved bear we never knew about for all these years. I would have much preferred to meet a rare beloved character you never get to see than to waste space on Duffy. Glad he is leaving!!!! So long Duffy the Demonic Bear! :)

Epcot has 99 problems and this dumb stuffed bear isn't one of them. Good riddance. Can the "Duffy" budget be re-misallocated to fix something WDW and DL guests actually care about?

I guess Duffy will have to hop the first Duffy bus back to Tokyo...

Yes, that is a very real thing in Japan. And it's upholstered in full on teddy bear theme.

I just hope the Japanese tourists who coordinate their daily outfits with their Duffy bear (I've seen this many, many times) don't forsake Epcot now! ;-)
