I'm not at all surprised. We saw this happen ourselves 3 years ago, about the same time of night, during the F&W Festival and it was clear he had been drinking too much. Security was waiting for him at the top and I'm sure he was appropriately escorted out.

Since Canada has their chainsaws and log roll competition, perhaps this could be introduced at the Mexican Pavilion.

I'm just curious as to why everyone makes the assumption that somebody climbing these steps has been drinking too much.

  • Unless you are climbing the steps "with" him then you have no idea if he has been drinking at all.
  • Unless you have administered a breathalyzer, then you are not qualified to judge how much the person may have consumed.
  • How much alcohol is too much to climb stairs?

It's always amusing to me that events like this create a huge soapbox on social media for holier than thous to chime in with their "They should ban Alcohol at Disney" argument.

I will remind people of the following:

Food and wine this year started Sep 25th and ends Nov 16th. It runs every day, each of which has thousands of guests participating in the consumption of libations. Put into perspective, thats a LOT of inebriated people with very very little incidents occurring. The actions of one drunk idiot is not grounds to judge the rest of the community who goes and enjoys the event without any issue. Try to remember, you don't have to be drunk to do something stupid, if that were the case, then there would never be any guest incidents at Magic Kingdom. Also try to keep in mind that people often choose to drink BEFORE entering the parks (as the price of alcohol inside is quite expensive), which happens more than the average guest realizes. Trashy guests are nothing new, just the speed in which we hear about them due to the information age we live in. The MAJORITY of people who go to Food and Wine are having a good time and are not doing stupid things or causing problems, but the few that do are so few and far between in the grand scheme of things.

Every report I've seen on this has the man "drunk". I gotta wonder if that was indeed the case, of if it was just a guy who wanted to do something different.
I made the inference in the other thread with this video that for a supposedly drunk guy, he's doing very well to climb those stairs. Also, like you, I've seen a number of "reports" on this "drunk guy climbing the pavilion" and every one is your typical 'age of no need for vetting and editing on the interwebs' and is just a rehash of the same text. They could all be correct, as they are all the same story, however, none sites any real evidence other than what's seen in the video, so, they could all also be entirely incorrect. Drunk or not, it's an idiotic move, but the assumption of being drunk is unwise also.

Let me be the bad guy here.

Everyone saying this is funny, it's really not. He may or may not be drunk, but my point will remain. You have to control the idiots and the first step is eliminating mind altering alcohol because some people can't handle it.

This is not only a safety concern, but an example of behavior that is not conducive to a family environment at Disney. What happens next time? Instead of climbing Mexico, let's say someone starts going around and slapping women on the bum. Is that funny? I can guarantee you it will happen. What if some creep goes around exposing himself? Then, no one is laughing and everyone is up and arms that Disney didn't "handle" it better.

I'm all for alcohol, even drugs on your own time not hurting anyone else, but not at Disney. The food and wine festival exists for one reason: Money.

It's the one thing I wish they'd just eliminate. I know people like drinking and most people can handle it, but it's the idiots like this (assuming he was drunk) that will ruin it for everyone. It's only a matter of time.

95% of people can handle a glass of wine, or even a few, but that 5% really can ruin an experience for a family that is supposed to be enjoying a family vacation. My problem with the alcohol at EPCOT is not the alcohol itself, but the fact you cannot choose to disassociate with it. You're forced to be around others who are drinking and try as you might, you can't avoid idiots.

Some people tend to be idiots at Disney anyway and they don't need an alcohol accelerator.

Not sure what you mean here. Disney controls essentially every aspect of what goes on in their parks. Banning alcohol would not eliminate the idiots, but it would be a step in the right direction. With the crowds becoming more insane the ever, the last thing people need is an "extra" excuse to act stupid.

Alcohol in a family park truly goes against Disney's core values and message, but it exists for the money. I get that. Perhaps they could only serve alcohol with food at dinner places and somehow limit it.

I'm for removing it all together. You can get plastered on your on time.

I truly do feel bad when a drunk idiot starts yelling, running around, or generally being obnoxious and kids have to be around that. I also personally hate it.

Alcohol and those who consume it should be banned from Disney, end of story. It is a common fact that because this man made a poor decision with his Mexican pavilion acrobatics, then every person who attends F & W is hellbent on mischief & destruction. This has nothing to do with us being "holier than thou", as you so nicely put it, but it has to do with us having a more divine lifestyle & code of morals than you (and others who choose to sip on the devil's nectar at these events).

Epcot should be an environment which focuses on culture, education, and having a good time. All these drinkers having a good time tasting various beverages from different cultures completely takes away from what Epcot is suppos......Edit: Epcot is supposed to be for the children. Children should not be exposed to such behavior which could occasionally be found during the late hours of a weekend night when they should be asleep anywa.......Edit: The drinkers should be banned, plain & simple. Disney is not the place for it. Walt never drank, nor did he ever show such behavior in any of his films or television programs. Checkmate!

If this eruption of knowledge doesn't convince you enough that the F & W event is pure evil in the worst possible way, then I advise you to read:
1 Chronicles verses 5 -7
and see if your mind isn't changed. That is all I will say on the matter.

You are not in charge.... Thank god. Your opinion is the extreme minority.... Thank god.... A few bad apples does not and should not ruin the experience for everybody else.... I have been going to Disney since I was 5...I have never noticed anything that was out of control. I'm sure it happens, but it does not raise to the level of banning alcohol... Look I don't need you to tell me what to do...I'm a big boy.... People like you make me puke with your finger waving moral superiority.... People like you are usually the biggest hypocrites.

divine lifestyle & code of morals than you... lol... Probably the most pathetic sentence in a post full of them. Please give a great details on how not having wine makes you have better morals.... I need a good a laugh
