Eliminating the pools would be the best way to go, you can still drown in a wading pool :hammer:

;)

And the bath tubs in the rooms, so there should only be shower stalls. :hammer:

but they can be slippery - a person might fall- maybe just a sink and a facecloth?

And even if they were they may not have been able to help. I see no report of an autopsy, she may have had a massive stroke or heart attack, dove in and broke her neck, etc.

Just because it happened on WDW properety does not make it WDW's fault.

This is true. My thread title is a little presumptuous and I should have worded it differently. It may not have been a drowning and could have been any number of medical conditions that caused the death "while in the pool" rather than drowning being the cause of death.

Tragic indeed.

If we follow the logic from the anti-M:S discussions, we should be seeing a big push for replacing the pools with wading pools because Disney pools are way too dangerous.

My thoughts exactly.

Actually, if Disney really cared for their guests, they would put a dome over the whole property. How easy would it be for a guest to look to the heavens and a rain drop enter a nostral and drown the guest....

Exactly...I would find it very odd for a grown person to drown in one of Disney's pools. They aren't very deep and especially at night don't offer any obstacles that would be dangerous (like people). I have a feeling that something else happened when she was in the pool which caused the drowning.

I'm never going to be able to look up at the sky again the same way again.

How awful! My condoleces to the family :(

Even that could be risky; one might accidently put ones face in the basin....I vote just a basketfull of those lemon scented, packaged wet cloth things

More poor parenting at WDW. I can't believe they would let a woman that's only 58 go to the pool alone.

Cheers.

That's what I was thinking. I doesn't make sense for someone that age to just drown in a pool not very deep.

Disneys pools are as safe (or unsafe) as any other body of water. FACT - humans drown in water if they do not treat it with respect.

what a horrible thing to happen.but it is not disney's fault. anything could have happened she could have fell in, had a heart attack or stroke or i know i shouldn't really say it but she could have been pushed.the true story won't come out for a while.

My condolences go out to the family as well, but I will repeat what I've said before that I'd rather end my days at WDW than any other place I can think of. At least I'd die happy. We all have to go sometime.

WAIT! Someone could have an allergic reaction to the stuff in the wet cloths and suffer death from anaphylaxis...

Seriously though, it's funny to joke about it but I feel really bad. My thoughts are with the family and the deceased.

Of course this is tragic for her family and friends, so we all feel for them.

But it's a simple matter of math. WDW has more people than an average city most of the time. I don't think statistically there are more deaths at WDW than any city with a similar number of people.

That said, I don't blame the media in this case. Most drownings in pools make the newspapers in cities. It's probably a good reminder to be extra careful.
