At least on the highway in America, if someone is moving slowly in the outside lane you can pass on the other side of them. Here that's not an option. So the big problem is someone in the middle lane going slowly. They stay there because "It's difficult to get back into in in case I need to overtake a lorry" :fork:

I also wish we had the equivalent of being able to turn a right (here it would be a left) at red traffic lights when the way is clear.

I hate it when people do that. Like they have no concept of what the left lane is used for.

On the flip side, though, I also hate it when people tailgate me on a two lane road (one lane each way).

I live in a neighborhood that has a long two-lane road heading out to the highway, and I won't do more than 50 through there, since it's residential. Invariably, somebody will come up behind me riding my @$$, trying to get me to speed up. My inevitable reaction is to slow down even more until they back off.

Too bad we can't control every damn thing that every damn person does in their car. (Nor do I want us to get to that point) I use my phone in the car all the time, it's when I schedule my appointments, do follow up, etc. I dial at the stoplights, and there we have it. *shrug* Not saying it's the best idea ever, but it's what I do. I have yet to look down from where I'm going to see what I'm doing with the phone, but the 4 kids in the back of the car is another story. :brick: :brick: :lol:

A few year back there was a lawsuit filed by some family who started watching another tv inside of the car next to them, well it was playing some type of adult movies they tried to sue the guy and lost if I remember correctly, becuase the guy had tinted windows and it was there choice to watch.

How about the case up in Alaska maybe a year ago, where a guy had a DVD installed in his truck(?), and he was allegedly watching a movie, when he crossed over the center line, struck another car, and killed the occupant(s?) of the other car.

Unfortunately, the prosecution could not prove that he was actually watching the movie at the time while he was driving. :brick:

We have a left lane law in NJ, although it is not enforced. I believe the law was either amended or a secondary law was passed that said a driver could NOT impede the flow of traffic (left lane), even if another person wants to exceed the speed limit. The highway patrol said that it was their job to enforce the speed limit, not other drivers.

In Germany (I believe), they strictly enforce proper use of the passing lane. Getting in the left lane and staying there is a serious violation (and not just on the books...it's rigidly enforced). Seems I recall seeing this on the History Channel once, where they were showing the history of the Autobahn (sp?) and then talked about how Germany is one of the safest countries to drive in, because of traffic laws enforcement.

Seems I recall seeing this on the History Channel once, where they were showing the history of the Autobahn (sp?) and then talked about how Germany is one of the safest countries to drive in, because of traffic laws enforcement.

That's true, and they also said that it costs $1500 to get your driver's license in Germany.

They even said that per miles driven (IE: the length of the Autobahn VS the length of all the interstates in the USA), that the Autobahn has WAY less deaths. And remember, there is NO speed limit on the Autobahn. Sure, if there is a crash, it is a huge mess, probably a death, but all in all it is safer to drive on the Autobahn than on the US interstates.

Maybe because someone saw someone driving a car, talking to someone on cell phone, describing the DVD he/she was watching while blocking traffic in the passing lane.

I think the bottom line is just to be careful whatever you are doing and try to keep distractions to a minimum. I do use hands-free, although I tend to drive with one hand anyway, since I drove stick up until 3 years ago and I've never quite become used to my automatic.

I have the same problem... I've driven a stick for 10 years, and now I have an automatic. Although I don't miss the stick, my hand still refuses to leave the shifter. LOL
