I've heard the rumors about Kidzone too...but Spongebob? They get rid of Nick Studios and Jimmy Neutron and say their contract is up with them but now they're building a play area themed to another Nick character? I'm not too sure about that one.

Scooby Doo is still around despite FUNtastic World leaving almost a decade ago. Dora, Diego, and Spongebob remain - apparently they're getting around to giving Spongebob his own attraction in its proper place. Honestly it's not a bad idea at all.

Rumor is Spongebob, doesn't mean it will be Spongebob... Actually, I can see them using a combo of Dora and Spongebob and other Nick Jr popular characters... Maybe call the area Nick Jr KidZone or something like that... Spongebob can be the water play area, Dora can be the kiddie coaster...

My guess is the Cartoon Store, KidZone Pizza Company, and Fievel's Playland will be the only areas affected by the overhaul. ET, the stage, Barney, Nuthouse, and Curious George will be left unaffected.

Reasoning for Nuthouse staying? Woody Woodpecker is being rebooted by Illumination Entertainment (guys behind Despicable Me and The Lorax) and could be in a few years considered a relevant property.

Reasoning for Curious George staying? It's still a moderately relevant property for Universal (could've sworn I heard that they were gonna attempt another theatrical release soon) and the play area simply doesn't feel as dated as Fievel. They won't retheme two disconnected play areas to the same property... and Fievel is adjacent to the aforementioned restaurant and shop. ET's entrance is jutted between them, but otherwise, it's the easiest transition.

But yeah, that's assuming it's Spongebob. Who knows, we could get Madgascar or something.

And more to do for extended stays in general. Right now Universal is a 4 day experience max - and that's largely if you've never seen the parks before. I could spend 4 days there since I'm a big fan, but the average vacation goer will run out of things to do after day 2 or 3. This, along with Blue Man Group, will do much good to flesh out Universal's offerings.

(Regarding kid entertainment, there have been some strong rumors lately indicating a major rehaul is int he works for the Studios KidZone area - possibly centering around one Spongebob Squarepants.)

We're doing 5 nights in July (though one day will be Sea World). I think it's a bit much, but my kids love Universal, and two of them are 5 years old. They love being able to go on all the rides without having to wait. And they could spend all day in the Curious George play area.

I can deal with 4 days there because I love the Royal Pacific, and I love Islands of Adventure. The re-rideability factor is WAY high on most of their rides.

Woody Woodpecker is getting a reboot??? First I heard of that... Hope they do a good job with a reboot...

I'm really surprised no one tried to pick up the Smurfs theme park rights... Smurf village would be a pretty cool kids zone, and heck, even a Smurfs dark ride could be fun... I picture the area like Dr. Seuss... Fun for kids and adults...

Have you looked into the themed rooms at Royal Pacific??? I know there is a Jurassic Park themed room... Not sure about any others... I believe Portofino has a Dr Seuss themed room..

Yeah, it's a suite. Looked cool, but we decided to give Club Level a try this year, and that was pricey enough.

I don't find the themed suites to be all that impressive, to be honest. It's got some cool wallpaper/painted walls, a couple of neat toys & stickers, and that's about it... definitely not worth the price they're asking for IMO. In terms of the themed room department Disney wins.

I would see them keeping the Woody Woodpecker coaster...everything else could be gutted and rethemed. (especially the barney show!) I would like to see something new and cutting edge back there. While it's quite a large play kids zone, it does feel pretty dated.

BTW, Universal Orlando passholders will get 10% off the price... The final price hasn't been set yet, though I would say somewhere from 13 to 15 bucks is probably about right....

I'm doubtful about anything Nickelodeon related, but if they DID put spongebob in there....
PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE A KRUSTY KRAB! It would give us another commodity you can't get anywhere else like butterbeer in WWoHP : Krabby Patties! It would be a big pull for everyone, not just kids.

It looks like the designers are really having some fun with this one, and I bet with the nighttime lighting and potential animation it will be even more impressive.
I imagine that these will do brisk business with families leaving the parks at the end of the day, because anyone walking to either park entrance will be able to look down and see the courses and I'm sure kids will be begging their parents to stop and play, maybe even before they get to the parks themselves.

It's nice to see Universal finally taking advantage of some of the potential for City Walk to appeal to families and not just try to be some kind of chain-restaurant Pleasure Island as done by a shopping mall.

If they're smart, more tourist-trap type activities, but with an upscale touch, will follow.

aw man...this makes me so excited!
Tricked out Mini Golf courses are one of my favorite things in the world...
And it really looks like this one will be amazing!

Sometimes all it takes is some giant props to make me happy...but I really hope that there are some nice effects in the design of the play as well.

The Madagascar characters may get a meet and greet in that area too... Their current area has been removed... So, I wouldn't doubt seeing some Madagascar theme in the area as well...

With the love for Dreamworks I'm kind of suprised the whole play area isn't being utilized for their properties: Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, etc.
