Dreamworks to Disney?

It's the same deal Disney had with Pixar pre-buyout. Dreamworks films will be distributed by Disney and Disney will have the right to place those properties in the parks and play their films on disney's channels.

Wow. So this has the potential to be a really good thing for Disney.

Are there any properties Disney would even want to use in their parks?
Here's the list of the last four years of Dreamworks SKG films that weren't coproduced with another production company.
Remember the are not getting any of the animation properties as it a separate independent company!

2008
Tropic Thunder
Eagle Eye
2007
Norbit
Disturbia
Things We Lost in the Fire
2006
-Nothing-
2005
The Ring two
Red Eye
Just Like Heaven
Dreamer

They have some more notable co-production credits. Transformers and War of the Worlds which universal already has theme park rights to.

This deal means nothing more than a patched up relationship with Speilberg and a new Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures type studio distribution deal.

You make it sound like there not making any new movies. This deal isn't about any of the previous properties (except for maybe one). It is about future franchises and like Lasseter, Spielberg was specifically interested in the deal because of the potential of seeing his studios films come to life in the parks.

Doubt it will have any affect at all. More than likely two separate contracts and business deals.

As for the Transformers ride, probably doesn't have any effect. Any film franchises or properties that Paramount and Dreamworks started or worked on together prior to their split remain property of Paramount who likely striked the theme park rights deal, but I don't know for sure.

It just seems like there is a lot of bad blood between Universal and DreamWorks right now. It kind of makes me wonder if Universal terminated the ride deal.

I did some research on Wikipedia and it seems like alot of there new films have theme park potentional:

2011:

The Adventures of Tintin - based on the old cartoon series. Being developed in collaboration with Spielberg/Peter Jackson

TBA:

Ghost in the shell - sci fi fantasy film based on japenese cartoon
Fatal Frame - live action film based on the horror playstation franchise
When Worlds Collide - Based on the sci-fi novel from the 1930s, would be right at home in florida's tomorrowland

There's probably more original properties that Spielberg is cooking up that haven't been announced yet.

Also, keep in mind the reason the roger rabbit franchise was mothballed was because of a fallout between Eisner and Spielberg. If Spielberg is friends with Disney again we could potentially see a revival of that franchise as it was and in many ways still is a cash cow for the company that is ripe for mining.

There are probably more benefits then I have already posted that will come out of this deal. Not sure whats gonna happen to the Transformers e-ticket now. I was really looking foward to it.

Well I see a ton of benefits to this. I think you have to throw in Amblin titles too (except E.T. I guess:drevil:). This could also bring in the talents of Frank Marshall to the Disney fold. He is Disney through and through in my opinion. Also, this deal should build more bridges to George Lucas. To me it is a win-win-win-win-win......if it happens. I can't say everything I think about this but someday Mr Iger may get the credit he deserves. The guy is unbelievable. And I'll tell you this, if this deal happens he will have earned that bonus several times over!

No single human deserves that kind of bonus sorry.

Iger may be making the right moves but it is absurd that CEOs think they can make 400 times what the average employee is making. Overpaying dumbass ceo's is what caused the middle class's standard of living to go down and contributed to the economic mess we are in.

I really hopes this doesnt happen. I think Disney should stick to Pixar and Pixar only. Plus if this thing goes through then Lasseter wouldn't be too happy.

I understand exactly what you are saying. Pixar is a proven, great partner for Disney, but I always fear putting all of your eggs in one basket. If Pixar goes through a slump, at least they'll have a backup.

I sincerely doubt that Iger is doing all of this without input from the Chief Creative Officer of the company. People are talking like Lasseter isn't involved at all. I find that ridiculously hard to believe.

Associating any creative mind the likes of Spielberg with Disney can only work out well for Disney. If he never was responsible for another movie again, his eye for detail and quality is famous in Hollywood.

To me, the biggest part of this deal is Spielberg, and of course, perhaps a return of Roger Rabbit.

They wouldn't be taking over Dreamworks animation. If they were, I'm not even sure that this deal could be done. Too many conflicting interests on the table.

Keep in mind.. Dreamworks Animation is a seperate BUSINESS UNIT, (it is NOT a seperate company) with a distribution deal of it's on, at the moment..

But, either way, if SKG (which stands for Speilberg, Katzenburg, Geffen, BTW) signs this distro (get in line to be purchased next) deal.. Then, expect (Sooner or later) DWA to be not far behind..

Why would this tick off lasseter? Buying your rival is considered a major victory in corporate eyes :)

What about WDFA? Should they get rid of that too? =/
Its only a distribution deal. Its not like anyone will be kicked out because they have a deal with SKG now.

Any deal that brings Spielberg into the company is a major victory for Disney, in my opinion.

Hopefully, this means they'll resurrect Roger Rabbit!!

An "average employee" deserves "average" pay. My advice is, if you want more pay don't be average.

You are so misinformed.

And who are you to say who deserves what anyway?

Even your hero does not dare tell a private company what it can pay it's employees.

I have been around long enough to see how people's standard of living for the "middle class" has greatly improved. That may not be true in your little circle but it is quite true overall. If someone has seen there their economic situation decline it is usually due to a refusal to live within their economic means, refusing to budget and running up credit card debt.

*end of lesson*

PS- I know you are too lost to even comprehend what I just said. I really mean it for others who might have read your factless opinion.

It's really amusing to me how so many posters don't understand that this deal has nothing to do with Dreamworks Animation. No matter how many time that fact is repeated. The moderators should edit the first post since apparently people don't like reading the whole thread.
