JT... Can't even copy and past my screen name? I'm just kidding, it's all good..

Kamikaze.. When you say something like "Katzenberg still owns his part of the company", Do you just guess that fact in your head and decide to write it on a board. Just make up facts, because you believe them to be true? I'm just wondering....

Katzenberg and Geffen have no financial interest in the company currently. Zero.. Write it down and make a note of it.

I apologize, but the reason I started posting here and not say "dizzzboards" is because I though we had a smart, informed crowd over here..

Interesting.
I obviously haven't been paying too much attention to Dreamworks over the last couple years....

I wonder how this will affect certain PG-13 / R movies touchstone were considdering.. with this disney could partner on movies with touchstone and not use marimax as much.

and for those wondering about the attractions, Dreamworks lets any theme park do a attraction based upon their characters as long as they have the money, Shrek 4-D is in a lot of parks.

In other news, Hades just announced a new ski resort. :xmas:

your late, Hades opened Blizard Beach in florida.. but it failed and he sold it to disney who claimed they made it snow in florida ;)

Disney and DreamWorks Confirm Distribution Deal
Source: The Walt Disney Studios February 9, 2009

The Walt Disney Studios has agreed to enter into an exclusive long-term distribution arrangement with filmmaker and DreamWorks Studios co-founder Steven Spielberg, and partner Stacey Snider, chief executive officer of DreamWorks, to distribute all upcoming live-action motion pictures produced by DreamWorks under their partnership with Reliance BIG Entertainment, part of The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, it was announced today by ________ Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Under the terms of this arrangement, Disney will handle distribution and marketing for approximately six DreamWorks films each year. The first DreamWorks motion picture to be released under the Touchstone Pictures banner is scheduled to hit theaters in 2010.

DreamWorks principals Spielberg and Snider partnered with Reliance BIG Entertainment last fall to form a new motion picture company. In addition to being a partner in DreamWorks, Reliance will also distribute the new company's projects in India.

Commenting on the announcement, Cook said, "We're both thrilled and honored to be marketing and distributing all of DreamWorks' signature upcoming live-action motion pictures, and to begin a new relationship with such respected colleagues as Steven, Stacey, and their creative team at DreamWorks. Steven has made some of the biggest and most loved films of all-time, and continues to be one of the great icons of our industry. Stacey has an impeccable reputation and a phenomenal track record for making a wide variety of quality films. Their motion pictures will be the perfect complement to the already robust slate of Disney and Touchstone films being made by Oren Aviv and his team."

Bob Iger, president and CEO, The Walt Disney Company, added, "We are tremendously pleased to join forces with Steven Spielberg, whose artistic vision and commitment to quality filmmaking are legendary. DreamWorks has had a great creative and commercial track record under the leadership of Steven and Stacey Snider and I am delighted they're now associated with Disney."

Steven Spielberg said, "Disney is the birthplace of imagination and has always been as close to the worldwide audience as any company ever has. I am so pleased that industry leaders like Bob Iger and ________ Cook reached out to become our distribution partner. This is a major step forward for us and Reliance."

Stacey Snider added, "Under Bob Iger and ________ Cook's leadership, The Walt Disney Company represents the highest standard of quality in our industry. Everyone at DreamWorks is thrilled to be embarking upon this new and exciting partnership and we look forward to our future with their great team."

Probably an odd ball question but for someone who would know this better than i do please indulge:
Does Universal lose the rights to Shrek and other films used in their parks if it was made by DreamWorks or does this just change ownership?

Is Mr. Cook's name Richard? Trying to figure out why it's blanked out, although the idea of someone having the name of a person who is a short order chef of the male anatomy makes me chuckle.

No. I dont believe so. Shrek belongs to DreamWorks Animation, which seperated from DreamWorks SKG. Universal never owned Shrek, they were just given the rights to use the property.

First off, I am not an expert here - so correct me if I am wrong. But any non-Universal attraction at Universal, has contracts/license agreement. When that is near the end of life, either the contract renews, or, doesn't. We have seen this countless times with Ghostbusters, Hanna-Barbera, and of course - Nickelodeon. I am sure Jimmy Neutron is near its last cycle. I am not sure about Shrek, though. I assumed, because Shrek was attached to DW, which was attached to Spielberg - that is the reason why there is a Shrek attraction in the first place. But seeing this new development, it may have been just a contract between DW Animation and Universal. I don't think it's going to go anywhere, anytime soon. But this is interesting all the way down the board. Could Spielberg lift E.T. from Universal, and bring it to the Disney Parks? I doubt Jaws would fit, though.

I am shocked by this - mostly because the history with Spielberg/Universal. And after Spielberg's Tin-Tin, the movie I am looking forward to, Lincoin, I can't imagine Disney banking on. Then again, we've seen craizer things!!!

As for 'who is Katzenberg'?!?!?!?!?!?! :hammer:!!! Short term wise, DW animation is separated from DW. To add perceptive there, imagine Pixar that tried to distant itself from Disney for a while. Same concept. But in this case, what could happen down the road. :drevil: Though, what makes the Shrek movies great is it's slick satire toward Disney, without the Disney 'magic'.

Universal will be hurting, though. Especially with the loss of Spielberg. What could that mean to the parks? Well, we already seen BTTF gone. I doubt Universal wants to keep E.T. forever (though, they are crazy). Universal's problem (park wise), is they have no self confidence for themselves. Seeing The Simpsons and Harry Potter, is a clear indication of this. It's also the reason why we are now seeing an outdoor roller coaster in a movie-studio park. So the way Universal is going with their parks, the Spielberg loss won't affect them. But the major studio, WILL. Does this mean Spielberg will no longer do films for Universal Studios? What does this mean for Amblin (though, we haven't seen much from that production company in a while)?

Actually, if Jim Hill is to be believed, Lincoln will be the first parks-related manifestation of this new deal. (In which case, I will stand corrected about this being 0% about the parks, and in which case you should imagine it, khelsinki.)

Supposedly, a 2010 redo of HOP is in the works to re-voice Lincoln using Liam Neeson (who has agreed to play Lincoln in the film). Hill gives some compelling reasons that this could happen: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_h...ielberg-s-first-film-for-the-mouse-house.aspx
