Downtown Disney Improves - More Festive

This past Friday and Saturday nights I strolled through the Downtown Disney area and found it to be rather festive. I really liked the idea of having a musician set-up about every half block or so. Kids and adults dancing, lots of lights, latin music blaring from Bongos, bluesy tunes from the H o B front porch, a guy singing Beatle songs in front of Virgin Records, a jazzy guitarist midway thru, etc. By comparison,it makes PI appear rather dead; dead because several buildings are vacant and not there's not much going on, except the stiltwalkers appear briefly now and then.

It will become more so as the clubs are phased out and the area takes on a more Disney-esque atmosphere that is largely family oriented. You have encouraged me about the future of DTD. :)

This sounds great! Thanks for reporting OP.

Maybe now I can actually enjoy going to Downtown Disney again. T-Rex seems to be coming along nicely as well and I'm very anxious to try it out once it opens.

Now, where's that Disney themed bowling alley?;)

If they build an ESPNZone in the recently announced ESPN-land, then I think an over-the-top Disney-fied bowling center next door would be amazingly popular. It would not only provide a great location for after hours fun but the complex would draw a huge amounts of locals.

Bowlers are athletes too !!!! :lookaroun

Live music in the streets is one thing I loved about Downtown Disney in California. It really created a great atmosphere.

It's good to see that they are bringing the same concept to Florida. I always felt that it lacked something at night, especially on the West side. The original area seemed to have a more low key, quiet, resort like atmosphere, Pleasure Island lively and kinetic, but the Westside just seemed to be a collection of buildings - great when you're in them, but no atmosphere outside in the streets.

Ooo! Very cool to hear! Any one know if this is this part of a new movement/phase that could be permanent or is the live music only going to be available for a limited time?

I hope this is something for keeps...sounds awesome!

It's good to see Downtown Disney getting a more festive environment for all ages. If they do the same to Pleasure Island and put some good entertainment in those vacant buildings, we could really have something good. :)

Of all the things that could possibly be built.. You want a bowling alley? I thought the point of visiting WDW was to enjoy unique experiences you can't find everywhere else.

Done in the right way it could be very unique, especially if they gave it a Disney twist. Hopefully not the kind of unique bowling i experienced in Austria whilst on a ski trip, it seemed very similiar to what bowling must have developed from! :p

I would like to see a variety of bowling options under one roof - for example - Candlepin Bowling Lanes - Ten Pin Bowling Lanes - Rubberband Duckpin Bowling Lanes, etc.

I agree! They have developed amazing technologies and changed what most people usually think of when going to a bowling alley. They can be very fun, interactive, and high tech. Put into the hands of the Imagineers and it could be even better. Think of TSM computer type technology adapted to bowling. Instead of shooing at targets you bowl and effect interactive computer games and compete against your group or many groups. I used to think it would be great at DTD but after learning about ESPN-Land, I think a huge bowling center would be great there and could host a few televised PBA events every year. Trust me it would work and draw in locals too!

I'm not sure about what's happening in the marketplace - I only spent time at Downtown Disney West Side and PI. Maybe someone else can comment on that area.

If you didn't make it to the marketplace you missed a lot. And much more will be happening all across the area in the future. That is good.
