Downtown Disney Improves - More Festive

sounds a lot like DLR's Downtown Disney- I was actually very disappointed when I went to WDW's DTD because I love DLR's so much- glad to hear they're taking notes!

..But I can just go to Lucky Strike for that. Why would I go to WDW to do something I can do anywhere?

Why would you go to a Disney theme park when you could go to six flags or heck, a local state fair? Why would you stay in a Disney hotel when you could just stay at Motel 6? Why would you go eat at a Disney restaurant inside the park when you could go to a cheaper Applebees..... What about their water parks, when you could go to a local one?

because Disney does it different and better.... I fail to see why a bowling alley is more "commonplace" than a hotel or restaurant.....A lot of people are knocking the bowling idea- but there are a ton of things that Disney does, that seem commonplace, but since it's Disney doing them, they're fantastic.

Dumbo is about the most generic ride system around, and it's still got the longest waits in the park. Add to that 90% of Disney's attractions, and it shows you that it's the difference they make.

For example, imagine theme nights. Villain bowl, Alice in Wonderland blacklight bowl, Pirate/Princess bowl, Disney Channel nights...just off the top of my head. People would flock to it, and throw in some good food and drink locations to go with it and I say it would be quite cool. And harmless if at WWoS, to boot.

I simply feel this is prime real estate, and I would like to see something unique built if they do in fact do away with the clubs. I guess I'm in the minority. I don't want to pay 12 dollars a game to bowl because some Disney characters are painted on the walls.

So Disney should just recreate everything that exists outside of their property? Lets all go to the Disney Gap store. It's themed!

If they build an ESPNZone in the recently announced ESPN-land, then I think an over-the-top Disney-fied bowling center next door would be amazingly popular. It would not only provide a great location for after hours fun but the complex would draw a huge amounts of locals.

Bowlers are athletes too !!!! :lookaroun

will there be beer!!!??? I like beer!!! Lets pretend there will be beer!!!! mmmmm...beer and bowling :slurp:

I agree with you. This is prime real estate and needs something unique. The last thing I want to do on vacation is bowl :hurl: What's next a Disney go cart track?

A gross exaggeration, my friend- I have no doubt that if this were to happen, Disney would make it a lushly themed experience. The mini-golfing is superbly themed, unlike local Crazy Golf courses, and would expect Disney to replicate their success here.

Go Carting!! You are a genius :drevil:

But in all seriousness, if they did build a bowling alley me and my family would go and bowl.

I thiknk your missing the point a little

I dont know why people always think Disney will deliver a "vanilla" experience on an activity that might be available in other places. When in most cases Disney takes a good idea and "pluses" it as Walt would say. I dont know what Disney could do to make bowling more unique. But I imagine even if they couldnt really mess about with the game; they'd somehow find a way to make it not just another bowling alley

Besides that, regardless of bowling being available most places; being able to bowl on holiday is ace. Theres a sort of fancy forest based holiday resort over here (Center Parcs) that my family tends to visit and most activies there are kind of everydayish to a degree. But the difference between everyday and a holiday; is that people are a bit more tense during non-holiday times and cant do these other activites because they are eather busy or making the most of the weekend to relax before the rat-race starts again.

When your on holiday; everyones relaxed and that makes sport games or things like bowling more enjoyable.

Eather way, I welcome such an addition to DTD, as IMO more family friendly stuff wouldnt be a bad thing, thats what disneys about anyways.

I love to bowl (even if I ain't that good!)...so...maybe something wacky with the ball return, like loops on one set of lanes, several hills on another...maybe something with the pin resetter (like Wall-E perhaps?)...the computerized scoring would be out of this world with Disney/Pixar animation and graphics. And, I'm sure, themed tables, carpeting, wall murals, ect. A Disney bowling center would be absolutely awesome!

How exactly is their mini golf any different from the dozen other mini golf courses that surround them? Sure, certain holes had some money put into them and their artists are more talented... But what exactly am I missing here? How is mini golfing at WDW so vastly superior to golfing at the Pirates place across Lake Buena Vista Drive?

Other than Fantasia Fairways it isn't. I actually thought their courses were in worse shape than most of the local ones when I played them last year. Everything looks really worn, there is always a ton of stuff on the greens since Disney apparently didn't consider falling leaves/nuts when they did their landscaping, and the actual theming really isn't that much better.

I love Pleasure Island and wish they would just amp up the bars/clubs that are there. I would go insane every night if there were no clubs at WDW. They just need a little plussing, and I mean, the AC is always great.

I think they should take the AC's living character/dinner theatre theme and apply it to 8 trax (kinda like the whole disco theme in Austin Powers' Goldmember), and the rest of the other clubs that are holding up.

I also think Mickey's karaoke Jam with AA's of Mickey and the Gang Mc'ing the party would be a big hit.

Bowling would be great as well.

A crazy glow-in-the-dark mini putt would work wonders too.

Personally I think P.I. and D.D. should be more integrated so that families and revellers are all having fun whether its bowling, shopping or dancing.

Is it possible that Disney simply isn't attracting the kind of "adults only" crowds that it takes to keep all these clubs open?

The last time I was there, they were all nearly empty other than the Adventurer's Club.

I know it sounds crazy but if you have been to a Lucky Strike or something like it it could fit in really well and draw locals as well.

See attached...check out the photos...not yo mama's old type of boll'in alley!:animwink:

Wow - that's the truth, it's beautiful. And you have to love the picture of the mouse in the gallery :animwink:. But bonus - i seen in the locations they have opened one in KC at our new Power & Light district - I will definitely have to check it out. Bowling is great exercise and lots of fun folks!
