Downtown Disney Improves - More Festive

I agree with you. This is prime real estate and needs something unique. The last thing I want to do on vacation is bowl :hurl: What's next a Disney go cart track?

Call me corny - but the go carts would be kind of fun. We used to play a Disney game that had racing through various locations as disney world that the kids and I enjoyed playing.

I guess some people want unique and others want a fun, themed experience. Even though we have mini golf courses in my local area - I still like doing it at disney, because it's fun how they themed it and it gets us in the mood. To each their own I guess.

I love Pleasure Island and wish they would just amp up the bars/clubs that are there. I would go insane every night if there were no clubs at WDW. They just need a little plussing, and I mean, the AC is always great.

I think they should take the AC's living character/dinner theatre theme and apply it to 8 trax (kinda like the whole disco theme in Austin Powers' Goldmember), and the rest of the other clubs that are holding up.

I also think Mickey's karaoke Jam with AA's of Mickey and the Gang Mc'ing the party would be a big hit.

Bowling would be great as well.

A crazy glow-in-the-dark mini putt would work wonders too.

Personally I think P.I. and D.D. should be more integrated so that families and revellers are all having fun whether its bowling, shopping or dancing.

Perfectly put. Like your Karaoke idea - that would be fun for all ages.

So Disney should just recreate everything that exists outside of their property? Lets all go to the Disney Gap store. It's themed!

Now you're just trying to be difficult. And you know that if Disney were to put a bowling alley in, they'd do more than just paint characters on the walls.

I think a previous poster nailed it when they speculated that they just weren't bringing in the adult crowd that they expected. They have to focus on what the majority wants, and the majority is families with kids. Heck, I didn't go to PI once when I was on my CP. (wait, take that back, I went when they did some CP talent show thing at one of the clubs....:brick:) And when I go back to work this summer, I'll be 21, and I still won't go to PI. However, if there was a bowling alley down there, I can guarantee that my roommates and I would have hit that up quite a few times during our program. When my family came out to visit for Christmas, I guarantee we would have went. PI just doesn't work for families that have kids with them, and for one reason or another (it's lame, clubs haven't been updated, don't drink, don't like the clubbing scene, etc), it's beginning to lose its appeal to the 18-30 crowd as well. Time for change!!

This is really it.

Disney is selling the family destination. There are plently of places for adult time, and the people coming down and booking a trip to Disney are not usually the hard-hitting clubbers or heavy drinkers.

Or if they are (as some of my friends are) they didn't come down to Disney for that experience.

Simply put, a bowling alley will bring in more people and have a more universal appeal. Let WDI figure the rest out.

As much as I agree that Disney is for families, they are not blind to guests that do not come with kids. I will admit that PI has lost much of its luster over the years, but I spent alot of time there during college in the early 90's and loved it. However, people change, and even clubs in the "real world" rarely stay open for more than a couple of years without changing somehow. I think they need to identify a happy medium, perhaps mixing adult only locations with some for the whole family to enjoy.

I too believe that the Disney family experience is going to bring in far more money than the 21 + crowd that PI was meant to have drawn. I think the idea of Disney bowling is fantastic! (I bowl on Tuesday evenings, so perhaps I'm biased.) How is bowling any different than the Disney mini golf, or for that matter, the movie theater that they have in DTD? It's just another option for guests. Personally, I wouldn't hit the parks on the day I arrive, (we usually arrive around 2:00.) but I would DEFINATELY suggest a game of bowling to my family on that day. Any means of getting more people to visit DTD is a good idea. It also fits with DisneyQuest (however that is doing, financially.) as a family entertainment option. Or, Cirque, for that matter (although, that's far more of a financial commitment). My point is that Disney isn't just the parks anymore. It can be applied to any family-oriented entertainment. If bowling draws a family audience, as it seems it very well could, then it would be a good fit for WDW.

So, that's my .02.....
