Does anyone know if the Regal Sun Resort is truley across the street from Downtown disney? Also can you use the Disney transportation if you are staying in one of the hotels in that area. We have the opprotunity for a last minute vacation and would like to consider staying in that area.

Edited to add: The website says: "shuttle coach to reach any WALT DISNEY WORLD® Park in minutes."

It is not directly across the street from DTD around the corner would be more of a correct description. The hotels on HPB have their own shuttle that runs to the TTC and for want of a better term it really sucks. If you stay at one of the resorts on HPB I would highly recommend renting a car.

Thank-you.
I pulled up the address and the overhead photos. It appears to be a short walk (less than a mile) to Downtown disney and I have Teenage sons so walking is not an issue. Once we are in Downtown disney can we use disney transportation to get around the world?

Yes, but there is no direct transportation from DTD to any of the parks. You will have to take a bus from DTD to a resort and from there take another bus to the parks. Including your walk you could be looking at as much as 2 hours to get to a park. Also transportation does not start at DTD until 9ish if I remember correctly.

I personally have to disagree with these comments as they are inaccurate. I stay at the Best Western at DTD everytime. I have also stayed at the Grosvenor (now Regal Sun) and the Royal Plaza. The DTD bus system has been revamped a couple of times, and on my last visits I have found the buses to be reliable. The MK bus takes you to TTC, but the other buses take you directly to the parks. The buses leave the hotels every half hour. The first buses run an hour before the parks open til about an hour and a half after the parks close. The Regal Sun is very close to DDT.. an easy walk back and forth. Unless you are a "resort" sort of person, I think you would find the any of the HPB hotels comfortable and pretty convenient. I arrange my own trips on Expedia/Travelocity/Priceline, etc, and I have found hotel and airfare packages for the DTD hotels at quite a good price. My Oct. 2009 trip total is $1045 for 7 nights hotel and airfare for two people!!....if you do your homework there are great deals out there.

FYI, the farthest hotel on Hotel Plaza Blvd, the Doubletree, is an 8/10 mile walk from the Marketplace bus stops. (I measured it on Gmaps Pedometer just a week or two ago in another thread about rental cars)

The Regal Sun is maybe 1/3 that distance.

Here's a better idea of the distance:

The Marketplace bus stops are in the lower-left, and the main lobby of the Regal Sun is the building in the upper-right with the blue edge.

Thank-you both
Due to four of us traveling (my son's are 16 and 17 and were born in Orlando) these appear to be our best options. We are now in Canada, does anyone know what the crowds are like the week of Febuary 16. I noticed that alot of the Disney resorts are full.

AMEN! I don't believe in going through "brokers" or "booking agents" or whatever they are calling themselves now a days...there are too many options and deals out there to pay someone else.

I couldnt agree more!!! Priceline/Expedia etc usually have booking fees of one sort or another and they are very difficult to resolve issues with if there is a problem. Many people have told me that getting through to a live person is almost impossible to resolve any issues. Do a search for that and you will see what I mean!
As far as using a travel agent, I cant speak for other companies however Kingdom Konsultants does not, nor have we ever charged a fee to ANY client. Other companies do have varying policies so I would definitely check before any bookings are done with any other company, in terms of fees, cancellation charges etc. Having a Travel Agent, especially the folks at KK working for you is a very good thing. It can save you a ton of time and effort in looking for the best deal, time on the phone with Disney etc. If you enjoy doing that sort of thing and have the time for it, by all means go for it. If not, and in today's busy world, that is most of us, having a knowledgable and experienced professional to assist you with hotel selections based on personal experience, itinerary planning, restaurant selections etc can be invaluable. Belle
