Don't forget to bring...

When going to a place like Disney World there are a few things you should remember to always bring with you. Sometimes these are really logical things that are overlooked. What are some things that you would recommend bringing, especially to someone who has never visited Disney before or who might be going for the first time without the benefit of Mom and Dad's wisdom?

Great Tennis Shoes! Flip Flops can get old after awhile and you never want to wear shoes that might remotely make you uncomfortable after hours walking/standing in the park.

Sunscreen and chapstick. Aloe gel just in case you do get burned.
bandaids and moleskin for blisters (and scissors to cut the moleskin)
Pepto Bismol, tylenol or motrin

Let's see...my always takes....

  • Sunscreen.
  • Chapstick.
  • Asprin/painkiller.
  • Pepto/Tums/Immodium.
  • Hat (preferably with wide brim.)
  • Camera.
  • Batteries/extra rechargable battery for camera.
  • Glasses/sunglasses cleaner (the little soft clothes or pre-moistened ones - glasses get filthy!)
  • Case for sunglasses for after sunset.
  • Water bottle. (So I don't start off the day thirsty.)
  • Coverup/long-sleeved shirt (pending on time of year; it can get chilly once the sun goes down and it's expensive to buy a sweatshirt)
  • Any pins I have to trade. :)
  • Few small knick-knacks like nail clipper (hang nails can annoy the crap out of you all day), a bandaid or two, etc.
  • A comfortable, small, sturdy backpack/purse to carry it with ease.
I think that's about it. :) Heh.

2 swimsuits if you have them. Nothing worse than going swimming one night and then the next morning at 7 a.m. having to put on a freezing cold wet bathing suit to go to a water park.

Even if you're not bringing much into the parks, bring a pretty big backpack anyway to stuff your souvenirs into. We always have a big bag (2 kids) and never have a problem bringing it on any rides - they are very accomodating.

Socks. To throw in the hotel room's ceiling fan :lookaroun

But also, I usually bring DVD's (along with most of the other things listed) because in lots of the rooms there are DVD players now. It's fun watching movies after going to the parks.

The above mentioned things are a must! I can only think of one addition: a can of Lysol and/or air freshener. Hotel rooms can be so stuffy. I always pack a can on any vacation.

A tip for getting ponchos: We bought the bright yellow mickey ponchos on a trip to WDW several years ago. I think they were about $5 each. We folded them neatly and took them back with us on our next trip. (I'm too cheap to throw them away). While they are very sturdy and will last several trips (we still have them and they are in good shape), it is a pain in the behind to keep up with them, especially if you are at the parks and it quits raining. WHat do you do with them? On our next trip, I am going to Dollar Tree and buying the two packs of rain ponchos for $1. Several for each family member. That way, if it stops raining, you won't feel so bad about throwing away a 50 cent poncho. The cheap ones are longer, too. Good if you are tall like my husband.

We always bring a backpack into any park, and store it in a locker. The backpack contains (are you ready?) the following...

Ibuprofen (in addition to what my wife carries in her camera bag)
Sudafed (see above ^)
Cold pills
Pepto tablets
Immodium tablets
Bactine
First aid creme
Sunblock
Small folding scissors
Tweezers
Band aids
Moleskin
Gauze packs
Medical tape
A pack of pins (for piercing blisters or probing splinters)
Alcohol wipes
Iodine wipes
Tissue pack
Extra batteries
Extra socks
Extra film
Unoffical Guide book
and...
a partridge in a pear tree. :D

I have also found it very useful to pack an extension cord and a power strip. That way I can put all the rechargable stuff in one place under the table or in a corner where it won't get tripped over in the middle of the night while trying to find the bathroom.
