Does the smoking policy work?

I know many many people use the smoking areas, and I am extremely appreciative of this. However I have also seen quite a few people smoking wherever they please. I get sooo mad when I see (and smell) people smoking where they're not allowed to. What do you guys think? Do you think people obey the smoking policy for the most part or does it need to be more strictly enforced?

I dont think too many pple abide by the policy. I always see ppl smoking where they please.......and when asked to stop by a CM they just walk away a couple feet and continue smoling. I personally cant stand cigarrete smoke so I think the designated smoking areas are a great idea.........but no one uses them!

I have complete and total respect for the people who use the smoking areas b/c at least I can avoid them. The people who don't use smoking areas, on the other hand...

I agree... as long as they keep the smoke away from me. Let them all kill themselves in one place, together.

What?! People actually being courteous enough not to smoke where they shouldn't?! When does that happen?! Seriously though, people don't follow the smoking rules in the parks. They smoke where they want, when they want, and screw the rest of us.

Nope I have to say that for every one person that may use the designated areas, there are about 20 who don't. I hate the fact you can just be strolling down Main Street, and the next thing you are engulfed in a flume of foul smelling smoke!

Personally I think it should just be banned from the parks altogether.

I agree on the 20-1 rule. Whats worse is people are sitting on the bridge for example to watch illuminations smoking pipes and cigars. That's even worse.

Several times now, we've been waiting for a parade or fireworks when a family plops down next to us and starts puffing away. After giving them a few minutes to stop on their own, I point out the nearest smoking area to them and they go off to get their fix. There are then some polite applause from the rest of the crowd as they head off. My only complaint about the smoking areas is that they've taken some of the nicest out of the way spots for them, like the fountain behind The Castle or behind Liberty Square.

When we were there in June I noticed many people not smoking in the designated smoking areas. Why are they not making this a policy? I always fear that a child might get burnt while walking or in a stroller when people around them are smoking. I'm sure it has happen many times already.

They do enforce it its just that when a CM sees somone and tells them they cant smoke in tyhat area........ppl just dont listen they'll palm their cigarete and walk away and start smoking it 2 mins later.

That happened to me two or three years ago! Someone threw their cigarette and it hit me in the leg. I've never been so mad before! My brother had to drag me away b/c I was about to make a big scene and tell that lady off. I should have...

People like that don't listen to reason. One lady got furious when I pointed out(politely, I might add) that her cigarette was at my then toddler daughter's eye level, and she should move out of line to smoke. It got a little nasty until a cast member separated us.(I still think I could have taken her.;)) BTW, it was in line for Peter Pan's flight; they put us in different "sides".

That was about 15 years ago; I feel the policy is much stricter & with better enforcement now.

What I always say is politely go over and ask them if they need help with anything then go on to say well that brings me to my second thing the MK and WDW resort is a non-smoking area and sir/madam there is a designated smoking area located right over there. But if they get snotty like I've had happen before it works even better at the HM you say well it's for your safety and the safety of others that you put your cigar or whatever out because many attractions here used natural gas ... Boom. That always gets them to put it out immediately.

Skipper Timekeeper, do you mind if I quote you on that if the need arises again? You know, " Well, I know a cast member and he said they use a lot of natural gas for the attractions and you can do what you like but... Thanks. :)

I agree with markymark. Smoking should be banned from the parks. I'm VERY allergic to cigarette smoke, and I hate having to dodge smokers, especially those who are rude enough to walk around smoking!

My son was burnt on the arm by a cigarette. He was sitting in his stroller (aged 2). A lit cigarette dangling by someones side and a child in a stroller are on exactly the same level as he found out to his cost. He wasn't badly burned but he (& I) were very shaken by the experience (and the young guy that did it was very shaken by my reaction!!) Ban it totally from the parks or herd them altogether in a tiny unventilated room! It's a filthy habit!
