Does Disney Need Another Resort?

With all the talk of construction, one has to wonder if Disney truly needs more resort space. With new hotels coming in and unfinished sections to Pop Century, is a competely new resort even worthwhile?

From what I understand, Disney has enough trouble selling out all of its rooms as it is.

Any thoughts?

Depending on the season and resort, some of them get really filled up indeed. Do a search and you'll find people complaining about not being able to find rooms for the time frame they'd like. Granted, some people are doing last minute searches, but if wdw is routinely having trouble selling rooms, this wouldn't be a problem, ya know?

Meanwhile, a Four Seasons is being built on property, the Western Expansion will have non-themed value-style rooms & time-share units, half of Pop Century still sits unfinished, and one of the Towers in the Contemporary has been demolished and will eventually be rebuilt, the only question being will they still be regular rooms, DVC units or family suites, ala the All-Star family suites on a nicer Deluxe scale? There's plenty coming up even without a new resort with a new theme.

Granted, SOME resorts often seem to have more rooms available than others, most notably OKW && SSR, but that doesn't mean that the resorts are constantly closing off sections or floors due to lack of business.

I think they have filled the quota for now. With Four Seasons coming on board and then the Western Beltway Expansion I can't imagine it would want to compete more with these newer projects. You will see a movement for them to build more DVC then anything. I would love to see the DVC build a house at the Polynesean. It would sell out in a heartbeat.

As for Moderate resorts there are plenty of them already and they can't fill those. I have recieved steep discounts at Coronado Springs due to empty rooms at Thanksgiving, now thats saying something. If they could improve the "value/cheap" resorts then it would bring in more people. With Disney it is like everything else, its all about the details and ambience.

I don't think so. I remember as a kid when there was only the Contemporary, the Poly, and the Disney Inn(later called the Golf Resort, then the Disney Institute, and now Shades of Green) and you would have to plan at least year in advance to stay on property. One time we had reservations off property and were lucky enough to get a room at the Disney Inn at the last minute. Now you can pretty much get a room somewhere on property at anytime and it sort of takes away from the special feeling of the experience in my opinion.

Would have been nice if the Mediterranean was built. I love that style of theming. With the little island there, I am assuming the marina would have been between the land and it with maybe some Venician styling. But that area is just too unstable. Perfect rows of trees were planted there to cover the cleared ground and the evident sink hole which is edged by wild shrubbery, the center often retaining water.

Just something about SSL resorts. Not just the monorail, but the whole layout with MK on the northern shore, castle, etc.

If everything is full 10 or 15 days a year, that doesn't mean they need to build another resort. It might mean they could adjust their pricing or other incentives. It would be nice to finish Pop Century but I have no idea if there is enough demand to warrant it.

If anything, renovate and bring back the Treehouse Villas. Or at least let me live there!

Become a CP :D

Although, it's not a very nice place. Mildew smell everywhere. Don't even get proper bus service. Wonder if they'll still use them once Patterson is built. But Disney needs all the space they can get for the $6.67/hr non-union workers. But federal min wage hike and the Florida inflation data will come together, requiring 2 large pay increases in a matter of months. $.70 and then about $.40. so that's awesome :D
