Does Disney loose any magic living in FL?

Things do get tired when you have the luxury of being able to go all the time. I live about 45 minutes away, on a bad day, and if you go too much it can get boring. One case that comes to mind is Christmas 2008. I had different groups of friends going to Disney around the same time. So one day I did MGM with one group, then the next day did MGM with another group. And while they all had a blast, I started to feel this whole "been here, done that" feeling. Actually, one of the weirdest feelings I've ever felt was when we went on MuppetVision and I saw the attraction suddenly age right before me. I didn't go back to Disney until sometime in July or August after that.

If not overdone, living near Disney isn't a bad thing. But there are other things in Florida to do besides Disney and other major theme parks. I found that out and am pretty glad I did.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! And thank you for all your responses, this is defiantly what I wanted to hear. I was really hoping it didn't get stale after so many times.

Need2go2WDW - I will be (well, hopefully) moving from MI too!

if you view Disney the way I and many other people on this board do, it wouldn't get stale anyway... and look at it this way, by moving here, you can take more time to relax and take even more in when you go.

The only thing I miss about coming on here on a vacation is the whole "vacation" feeling... the planning, waiting, getting excited, packing, traveling, staying in a resort

Well said.
If I was an Orlando local, I would still love WDW, and go all the time, but I'd miss that "Being on vacation magical feeling".

There's just something about waiting and looking forward to your WDW trip for a year or two that couldn't be duplicated when it's right down the freeway.

Got to agree with you there. I live near Toronto and a big attraction here is Canada's Wonderland (think Cedar Point's little brother). I love Wonderland but I can go anytime and it doesn't compare to the hype of Disney. For example flying down in the plane in anticipation. Nothing beats that. And I don't go too often that the novelty has worn off. But it is nice to hear that there are Florida residents that still have that magic feel to it.

I guess my magical feeling is taking the ferry back at the end of the night and knowing I won't be back in two years. And when I return..............well I don't waste a second to soak up the magic

Ah, Kalamazoo huh? My sister lives there, she's in her second year at Western. We moved from the east side, New Baltimore to be exact. We sure aren't missing the weather :animwink: We really like it down here. Theres so much more to de year round here then in MI. Its nice to get out and go for a walk and stuff knowing that if you were still in MI, you'd probably be holed up in your house and wouldn't even remember what your neighbors looked like cause you haven't seen them out of there house in 6 months! I love to be FROM MI, but I love LIVING in FL more  ! I just miss my family and can't wait for their visits!

Never get tired of the magic!

We live 15 minutes from Disney, as a matter-of-fact we can see the fireworks from our home which brings a smile as we watch. We visit Disney now at a "relaxed" pace. We're so close that at times we just visit the Resorts/Parks for our evening walks, sit by the lakes, people watch, enjoy a drink by the lake at DTD on the weekend, etc which makes Disney more enjoyable without the "vacation rush". I really was not a Disney fan when I use to come from up north with my girls but now that I live here it's not as expensive, even now with my granddaughter visiting as we New Yorkers say "you have to have a hook-up)..HHAA. I think you'll feel the same way. The "magic" is still there.

Like others have said we just take our time, stroll the park and enjoy the little things. We also like to try all the different restaurants and will sometimes just go and do nothing but have dinner.

Right now we're taking a little break from WDW, we didn't renew our Florida resident annual passes this year, and are spending some time at Universal instead.

I lived in the metro-Orlando area from 6 years old to 16 years old, 1981 to 1991 (for the local's sake: Pine Castle area, Oviedo when it was still hick-ville, Altamonte Springs, & Winter Park). We had the old "Three Season Salute" passes for a couple years when I was 11 to about 13 so that had to have been 1985 to about 1988. That said, "going to Disney" was choosing between the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. For a kid that age, yes, it is possible to become bored. Bored tweens/teens can be a bad thing...that's how my sibs and I became official WDW Hooligans.

I live about maybe 30 minutes from property and the parks haven't lost any of their magic, even after 3.5 years of living in the area. In fact, it just makes it all the better: two nights ago I went to DTD solely to have dinner at Earl of Sandwich, and last night I went to the MK to pick up a merchandise item and while there ate dinner and rode a few rides. It's like a dream come true for me. :)

While I go to the parks multiple times a month, I don't feel like I need to go on any attractions or see any shows. I've gone to the parks without doing anything more than just walk around. I'm also an avid photographer so I love going to the parks to take photos.

Living so close doesn't take away from the magic, but it does change your perspective. It's a different feeling, but to me it doesn't make visiting WDW worse, just different.

Personally I think it would for me. Up until 2004, me and my family of 4 including me, would go once a year. From 2004 on, me and my dad have been ap holders and have gone sometimes 6 times a year, and in recent years 3 times a year. I still love going, and I must admit I enjoy myself more now than I did when I was a kid. But WDW has lost a bit of its "Oh My God, I cant believe Im here" feeling. Back in the mid 90s, it was a rare once a year experience so most of the trip felt like a dream. Now, I still kinda feel like I cant believe Im here, but its a different feeling than what it was back in the day. Im, honestly, just thankful I've been able to go so much and often over the years. Ive learned a lot.

But for me, I think living in or near Orl and WDW would def. knock off some pixie points for me. I know I wouldnt just have a wdw ap, Id more than likely have one for all the parks, but WDW wouldnt be "special" anymore. I rather live by DL lol.

3 and a 1/2 hours for me and my wife. I've been going multiple times a year since I was as long as I can remember, so I'm getting her used to the multiple Disney visits.
