My English is very good, but I do have my doubts, you know... And Barnum is becoming my official vocabulary teacher!!!
Your English is better than many English people I know!

I keep coming across American slang terms on here that I don't know - but I throw a few British ones back in, just to make it interesting. I've lost track of how many times I confused people with Cockney Ryhming Slang.

As for definitions of real English words you can always head over to www.dictionary.com. That's whre I got the detailed history behind cornucopia.

Cool! I will save to my favorites, it will help me a lot! Thanks for the compliment on my English... But yeah, this is one of the things I am not embarrassed to say: I can speak English very well. Nowadays I speak more English than portuguese, because I teach it all day long! And I can write better in English than in Portuguese, I am beginning to forget spelling, you know. I am just afraid of speaking English on the phone. I don't know, I am afraid of misunderstanding important information, like numbers, and setting up meetings on the phone makes me nervous... :o Anyway, I talked to Rob on the phone last time I went to WDW, and we managed to set up date and time with no mistakes. I don't know much about British English, and some slangs seem odd to me... :hammer:

Wow. This thread had attracted people from across the pond. I thought it was only reserved for people from Texas and Tennessee for a second there.

Welcome to the party. :)

Thanks!!! I've never been to Texas or Tennessee. I have an image on my mind about Texas (like huge landscapes, all brown with soil, and cowboys all over) but I know it is very likely to be totally wrong!!!! Like many people think Brazil is a jungle because the only image they have is the Amazon forest. Well, Rio is a very big and cosmopolitan city, and Brazil is not a jungle at all (at least not literally  ). So, how do Texas and Tennessee look like?

When I think of Texas cowboys come to my mind... and Tennessee, I think of Davy Crockett... That's all I know about both of them...

What kind of cities do you have there?

Davy Crockett is from Tennessee. I love that song too. :)

Anyway, Tennessee has two larger cities (Memphis and Nashville) and three or four medium size cities (under 500,000 people).

One side of the state has mountains and the other side is flat. We have rivers that run throughout the state.

It is gorgeous here and we get 4 seasons so there is always different types of weather.

If you can understand Rob on the phone then you are doing well - I had to get him to repeat things more than once

 Howdy pard'ner.

I may have mentioned this before in a distant thread, but as we are having Texas moment:

My Mother was in a mobile phone advert for a Norwegian company. The advert was set in a Texas roadside diner, but insted of filming it in Texas, they shot it in South Africa! Quite a mixture of nations.

Cool! We have one really huge cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro as well (that's the capital, Rio de Janeiro, where I live) and many medium size cities. The capitals of the states are usually the biggest, of course... But we have many different kinds of landscapes in Brazil, from beaches to mountains, from dry land to rain forests and huge cities. In Rio, we have a huge city right by the beach, with mountains too. Some buildings are almost carved in the mountains, and right by the beach! It is really beautiful!!! Well, seasons... It is generally boiling hot!!! Our seasons are: hot, less hot, boiling hot and very very very little cold...(for you guys, I mean. For us, it's enough to wear sweaters!!!)

That tends to happen here in the States for some reason. The network I work for recently aired a made for TV movie based in California. They shot it in Luxembourg (sp?) Apparantly it was cheaper to shoot it there. Don't know why.

I didn't think there were sweaters in Rio. Rio seems to have a party reputation here is the US. Is that true?

I guess he knew I was terrified of speaking English on the phone, and spoke slower... He even tried some spanish, but we went back to English right away because Spanish is more difficult for me! But yeah, I also had to get him to repeat things...

Yeah, that's true. It's a fun city, full of night clubs, beaches, parties... beautiful and friendly people... It's getting really dangerous, tough. The police is nothing!!! But yeah, we are really happy people, always willing to have fun. But I don't like the "hot party" reputation we have, specially for girls... I feel ofended...

Yeah, there are sweaters, but they are much thinner than yours... I usually freeze when I go to WDW in December, I have to wear on on top of the other to feel at least warmer!!!

That's because it can get cold there in December. I've been known to where a long sleeve shirt at that time. It can get into the 40s. Brrrrrrr...

Have you tried wearing them on your ears instead of your torso?
