While I'm thrilled to have more adventures with Ncuti because he's fantastic... yet ANOTHER companion who has connections throughout time and space? I'm losing track of how many times they've done this storyline. :/

I'm a bit disappointed they felt Ruby needed to be in and out in one season. There was plenty of room to bring in a second companion.

Having just seen the 4th wall breaking episode 2 and watching some fan YT videos, I have a sneaking suspicion that...

...Disney have had a hand in the direction of the series and are pushing a "storytelling" narrative. Episode 2 also feels a little WandaVision, and has some traditional animation in it. We've already seen a Tower of Terror and a Jungle Cruise boat in season 1, there are probably other references too that haven't been spotted. And the online leaks that spoiled the 4th wall scene, was it a deliberate leak so they could mention it in the scene?

Spoke with some friends last night about the latest episode... their response was "They're still making it?"

These are people who with myself and all our friends would group text each other about leaving work on time or early so as to get together for dinner and to all sit down and watch the evenings new episode of Doctor Who through the Capaldi era. No one I know watches it anymore and doesn't even care to know anything about it.

The Doctor told us to go touch grass. Well, we did, and no one is looking back.

I'm not totally loving this new season, but it's not because of The Doctor. I think Ncuti Gatwa is awesome in the role (though he's giving Tennant a run for the money when it comes to crying/whinging). I just don't love the companion this season, she's not as captivating as Ruby Sunday was (and I thought Ruby Sunday was a stupid name for a character, but she grew on me)

I gave up on Doctor Who during the second season of Jodie Whittaker. The writing was bad. Jodie did her best with the crap she was given. I liked her as the Doctor. Her companions on the other hand were numbskulls.

I haven't seen much at all of him and can't give a fair opinion but haven't really liked what I've seen. Whitaker though I actually was into her style but the writing and stories she was put in were down right horrible. I stopped watching about half way through Whitakers 1st season. Out of curiosity I watch the 1st xmas special with Tennant... and yeah, that bait and switch went about as well as dog poop sushi.

Liked this week's episode with a callback to an earlier Tennant episode.

However, I noticed that even though this is just the third episode of the new season, Disney+ didn't include it in the "featured" rotation of new and notable items at the top of the menu interface. A generic "Simpsons Collection," Vanderpump Villa and Handmaid's Tale all made the cut, though... sadly, doesn't bode well for Disney's commitment to DW.

It was, but also a plot similar to, famous lines from and an ending copied from...

Alien/Aliens/Alien 3

which leads me again to think that RTD has had influence from Disney in creating the storylines.

I though it was a very good episode though, quite scary and full of tension. In fact, a bit like the above!

Had to dig a bit to find this thread. Boy, talk about crapping the bed. Horrid ending to a horrid run as the Doctor. BBC still being shy but everything's pointing at least to a long pause for the show. Best cancel it because she's dead Jim.

I thought it stuck the landing, as it bookends Ncuti's time as the doctor pretty well. And not to spoil it, but
the return of Billie Piper as the potential next doctor is great in my opinion.

Unlike other new Doctors she wasn't introduced as "the Doctor." Some are speculating this is a bait and switch in that she won't be the Doctor and there may be someone else who is the Doctor, OR... Ncuti's still the Doctor. This would be MCU level "I'm not in that movie" level secrecy.

Its possible this a side effect of the bi-generation and him having to use his regeneration to push reality that she is like a "Doctor Donna" situation where she isn't the permanent Doctor but just used for one quick story before the next Doctor is introduced.
