Do you tip Magical Express?

I don't recall ever tipping Magical Express people but I wondering if they can accept tips? Everyone else seems to get tipped...bell boys, wait staff, mousekeeping. Well maybe not the tram driver, but ....

General rule of thumb:

If you handle your own carry on bags and/or use the magical express delivery service to your room, then No, you don't need to tip.

If the Magical Express driver takes your bag and places it under the bus and then retrieves it, then Yes, you tip a buck or two.

Usually put 2 light weight carry on's in so I give 'em about 3 bucks. If they are heavier on the way back I'll add a couple extra dollars. I HATE when I see people stiffing the drivers especially when it's obvious the bags are heavy. I leave a few bucks and a note of thanks for the bell people that bring the bags to the room, but if they are in a rush and don't see it.....well I tried.

We may be weird, but to us, these drivers arent just supposed to help with a bag, but they are driving people to/from the happiest place on earth! If the driver is not a happy person, and is grumpy and doesnt seem to like their job then we tend to only give them a dollar a bag, but if they interact with the passengers, make small talk, and seem genuinely happy to be doing what they do, then we give up to $3 a bag... It's kind of like tipping wait staff to us! They get what they earn!

I tend to agree with most of the posters on here, If the driver handles any bags I have or goes above and beyond what he/she was supposed to do, then yes I will absolutely tip a buck or three. Marie

The drivers have never handled our bags, but if one provides really good service (good guest interaction, for instance), I'll gladly tip a few dollars. I've even written to Disney and Mears when we've encountered a driver like that.

Excellent advice. It's worth it to know that ME is a Contracted Service of Mears - not WDW CMs. Sounds bad - but you should aproach this as you would any outside WDW company...
Not all of DME is Mears. The drivers and the buses are Mears. The person standing at the bus door is Mears. The person at the DME counter at the airport, the person who scans your voucher inside the airport if you don't go to the DME counter, the person who shows you to your bus queue, THEY are Disney CMs.

When you call DME's direct line at 866-599-0951, they're Disney CMs.

When you get your bags delivered to your resort room, they are Disney CMs (Bell Services staff at your resort).

We've always had great service and we've always tipped :D
Anytime we've tried to tip and it was someone who could not take tips, they let us know. ie. Lady scanning tickets at the entrance of the bus.

I too tip for baggage handling.

As to the person who said some people cannot accept tips, that happened to me once. I was getting something out of bell services and tried to give the woman a tip. She said she was not allowed to take them, but other people working bell services were if they helped me. I assume she was management or something along those lines.

I only tip if my bag is on the bus itself, if not I do not tip, I consider tipping of buses drivers only when they handle bags themselves as that is going above and beyond their basic job of driving the bus.

And while it was mentioned, the reason why wasn't explained, so I thought I'd put in in here about the non-tipping of the luggage delivery CMs, in case future people might come across this thread:

The Bell Services people who deliver your yellow-tagged luggage to the room receive a tip from DME for each bag delivered. That's why it's not necessary to tip them, and why you don't have to worry about not being in your room when they're delivered.

Thanks... I am traveling in 5 weeks with a student group and had not thought about tipping on ME. Something to talk about at our parent meeting coming up!

Now THAT I didn't know! Which brings up a question....

I often call the DME CM's when our ME booklets appear to be getting sent out a bit late... and they ALWAYS take the info & get those books right out. I'm pretty sure the DME computer system is not the same as the general WDW system - they just exchange data on a timed basis. Do you have any insite into this?

You are right, DME is not on the same system. The booklet printing is contracted out to a 3rd party - hence the late (and often not) arriving mailings!
