Do you think we will ever see another monorail resort?

Last year, Disney World actually had good occupancy numbers which started of at 89% for the 1st quarter. With all the new expansions coming to Disney World which should increase attendance, It makes me wonder if in the next 10 years or so we will see an announcement of a new resort. I know this is a long shot especially with Disney trying to save money everywhere possible but it's sure fun to dream about what kind of resort could go into the large space between Poly and CR.
What theme would you like to see? Maybe the Asia resort which was originally planned to go in between Poly and GF?

Will never happen. The land between CR and Poly was determined to be unsuitable for building.
Yes, if memory serves, they once tried to start building in that are, but every time they started construction, whatever pilings or base structure they'd start to build would just sink into the "swampiness" of the land.

You're more likely to see part of the real estate where the TTC is converted to hotel real estate. And I'm not saying that IS likely, only that it's MORE likely.

In this day and age of squeezing in DVC's everywhere, and 3rd party operators like the Four Seasons and the Flamingo Crossing area, don't see any new Disney built and owned hotels in the near future.

This just reminds me of the Monty Python and the Holy Grail Scene

I've built this kingdom up from nothing. When
I started here, all there was was swamp. All the kings said I was daft
to build a castle in a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show
'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the
swamp. So I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank
into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. An' that's what your gonna
get, lad -- the strongest castle in these islands.

As for another monorail resort, the only thing I could see working is building it off the EPCOT monorail line. There is plenty of land, just not sure how much is usable.

I don't think the Asian was supposed to go between Poly and GF; Asian was going to be where the GF currently is located. Venetian Resort was supposed to be built on the land between Poly and Contemporary, but as someone stated earlier, the land is not suitable for development. There was also supposed to be a Persian Resort north of the Contemporary on Bay Lake. Check out www.tikimanpages.com for a nice summary of the early plans for WDW.

I'd be more interested in seeing one of the other resorts (such as AKL) being added to the monorail line. Not sure how they'd do it...but that would be my vote.

Never mind a new monorail resort, I'd be happy if they figured out a way to connect the Wilderness Lodge. Given the current DVC construction, they're getting closer!
They could--but it'd be the Epcot line. Do we feel that makes sense for an MK resort (I'm asking)? Unless they reversed course, the connection would be on the side that heads to Epcot first, not the TTC.

Granted, if they didn't feel the need to do it 20+ years ago, I doubt they feel the need to connect WL to the monorail now. Personally, I don't think it works with the theme. I prefer the quaint boat ride.

I remember thinking it was very jarring at the Grand Californian. And then being frustrated that there wasn't at least a monorail station in the resort.

There's nothing more African savanna than a monorail. Says the San Diego Zoo.

Nothing more Polynesian than a monorail as well lol. The monorail probably fits best in the CR.

Actually, I was thinking of the stop/station being on the segment between the Contemporary and TTC. If you look at the DVC bungalow construction, they'd be pushing close to World Drive (over by the cast parking), with the Monorail line being adjacent. Distance wise, that's also closest to the main WL building than the Epcot loop would be.

Just some random thoughts though.

While true, it does not completely rule out the possibility as "unsuitable for building" really translates into "more expensive to build on".

Disney could build on that section of land today if they wished, but current methods in dealing with the conditions that exist there would most likely make the cost too high. It is possible that the cost to build and the value of a resort at that location might one day meet. If and when that day comes, we will see a resort on that section of land.

No, I don't think there will be another monorail resort. Then Disney might have to keep the monorails running an extra minute or two a day. That is NOT the direction they are going. Besides, it would probably cost money to buildi.

Yes they have been looking into building a resort in the spot between the TTC and Contemporary but they have the WL expansion, River Country resort and conversion of part of CBR over to DVC to do along with an addition to Polynesian first. They were going to originally build the Venetian in that spot and started looking at building there again not very long ago. The Asian was going to be built on the land that the GF is on now.

Please no BLT 2. We would think a pre-Epcot Monorail resort within walking distance of Epcot makes more sense location wise, but with the park being so bereft of attractions, probably not high on the ROI scale for occupancy year-round.

So all they have to do is try and build 3 more resorts there and the 4th will work!
