Minirails!

Expo67 (Montreal World's Fair) had four minirail loops through its 1000 acreas. The minirails were like electric-powered trams, only elevated. They glided overhead and relatively unobtrusively on a narrow-gaged rail. Rides were as cheap as 10c (Canadian, of course) on one loop, maybe 40c for the longest ride which was 10 minutes or so.

At WDW, minirails would work great to and from World Showcase... say $1 now for a ride from American Adventure back to Spaceship Earth... or 75c for Norway to France. The route would not have to follow the Promenade exactly, it could ascend and descend in height, and wind backstage and onstage as necessary to remain unobtrusive.

At the Magic Kingdom, the minirail would have themeing issues unless a lot of its travel were offstage. But really, every park could have at least one loop and I think that people wouldn't mind paying for the convenience. (a nominal charge for the ride would keep capacity manageable).

Just a dream of mine... no one has mentioned intra-park transport that I know of.

i don't really like the idea of charging money for attractions beyond the admission fee.

I would think duplicate attractions would take away from the original, so I think there should only be one Transit Authority...the original.

So then what do you think about the Flying Carpet of Agrabah as compared to Dumbo....or....Snow White as compared to Peter Pan? Basically they're mimics of each other, ridewise that is.

While I totally see your point (really, I do!), I just so enjoy the PeopleMover that I can't help wishing there were more! :D

I'm sure you're right though...it probably wouldn't be the same.

I think the reason they were brought to Tomorrowland was to introduce them to the public. It wasn't just made for a theme park ride, Disney wanted to use the wed way system for many different projects. I dont think it would take away too much from teh original if they were put in other parks, but I do agree that they shouldn't add any in MK (anyway, tomorrowland would be the only place they could fit in)

I'd just be happy if they rebuilt the Peoplemover at DL. Rocket Rods were the WORST experiment in the history of Disney Theme Parks. As far as other Parks in Fla., I could see one at FutureWorld in Epcot, but that's the only one that would appeal to me.

Cheers

A little off topic, but what exactkly was Rocket Rods??? I've never been to DL.

I's love to see a TTA in the World Showcase at EPCOT. It would be a way to bring the various nations together. They could even send it through nations not represented in the World Showcase.

Ah the rocket rods - responsible for wasting 2 hours of my time during my one trip to DL for a lousy 3-5 min ride... I definitely would feel cheated if DL were my "home park."

anyway, if they were going to put another peoplemover attraction in anywhere in WDW, why not Downtown Disney?? You know the eateries in the marketplace have to be at least a little jealous that most of the entertainment venues are more easily accessed from West Side restaurants - and since the main artery that bypasses PI gets INSANELY crowded, I think it would do a lot of good - I don't even care how they theme it.

FYI:

The Rocket Rods were supposed to be a high-speed thrill attraction that used the peoplemover track and supports. It went 60? MPH at some points, but was constantly broke down due to many issues - such as having no banking on the turns (sharp corners @ high speeds = not so good for vehicles, track, and especially TIRES!), trouble with the propulsion system, having an abysmal seating arrangement, poor theming, etc. I believe they were laid to rest in 2001... but now DL has an empty track in the air with nothing running on it - that has to look bad...

Absolutley not. They have enough clones of Dumbo all over the place. I would much rather see some originality that we saw at the end of the last decade.

Multiple stations for a peoplemover system in Epcot. One station by SE, one station in between the Land and Imagination, one station (the main one?) where Odessy sits, and one station by Wonders of Life an Universe of Energy... Kinda like the WDW RR, but Epcot's version. why not use it for transportation??? It wouldn't take much for the peoplemover (TTA in MK) to go through the attraction buildings. You don't even notice it in Space Mountain. It could even go through all the pavilions and give a glimpse into all the attractions. What is so bad about actually using it for a transporation system???

I think the problem stems from the quesrtion of.. "How do you load a continously moving system when people don't want to get off at every station?"

Think about it.. if people were merely using it to get from the Odyssey to SE, what about those wanting to ride from WoL/UoE to Imagination?

You can't force people off...

just let them stay on, like the train in the Magic Kingdom, until they reach the desired location. If it is truly a transportation system, like the monorail or even the busses, then the cars will make stops along the way...

Not everyone gets off the monorail at the TTC or Contemporary...

AhA! someone finally sees eye to eye with me! :)

I have in fact pondered this idea before, also taking into consideration RobFL's argument about not being able to continuously load people. People can stay on for as long as they want, like on the Railroad, which still works fine. I just think that the cars woudl have to be expanded, mabey, to fit more people in.

Also, for when the crowds do come in, they could resort to loading every other car. That way, there will always be open seats at the next station.

People will see the lines before they get in, and will most likely not wait for a slow ride like that if there is a big line.

I dont care - Sounds like a great idea.. Would like to see one at epcot riding by mission space close up and test track and all around journey, the land. living seas.. and back to the station.

would be a long relaxing ride.

anything in other parks.. doesnt matter ;)
