Do you remember the first time you were told/told someone you were going to Disney?

I know a LOT of us went when we were kids. I did myself. So obviously I remember my parents telling my sister and I about us going to Florida. It was March of 1991 when I first went and I was 10.5 years old. The first thing I thought of immediately was Mickey and.............Cinderella's Castle. I had never been there but I thought of it right away.

So what are some other stories? Do you remember your reaction when you first were told you were going? Or were you an adult and you told your significant other personally? What was their reaction?

It's pretty fuzzy but I remember my dad on the phone - and my mom said he was talking to the people at Disney. When he hung up he told us we were going to Walt Disney World and we got the Contemporary - and it was for the following year. It was for our first trip ever, which was in December 1976 so I I must have been almost 3 at the time. I remember being excited because my parents were excited - but I had no idea why!! Pretty much the earliest memory I have and it's of Disney - no wonder I'm a nut!.

I went for the first time when I was sophmore in College, 1978, so I remember it well. I have a more vivid memory of when we told my sister we were going back and she just smiled that smirky smile that let me know she thinks we are idiots for going ...again. She will never get it and I could have killed my husband for even bringing it up at dinner the night he did. He got a punch under the table, that's for sure. My family travels a lot, my sister has been all over the world sailing etc...but she does not understand my love of WDW. She figures everyone should vacation in Europe or on an exoctic island like she does. Well, I can't afford to go sailing to Figi or Tonga but I can afford a discounted trip to WDW. I don't really care what she thinks but if I had my way, we would just go and not say a word.

The first time I went was in 76...I had no idea what Disney World was -all I know is I'm SOOOO glad my best friends parents let her take a friend with her on vacation!

Then I didn't go again for 15 years and we took our kids, DD was 5 the perfect age and DS was 18 months... I swear he loved it as much as her and we've been hooked ever since..:)

I think I was 5 or 6, living in CA and had been to Disneyland a lot. We were heading home from a wedding in NY and waiting at the gate in La Guardia. My brother (5 years older) started freaking out that we were at the wrong gate and were going to miss the flight home. Totally ruined my parents surprise, when they had to explain we were going to WDW. My parents still tease him about, lol.

Now the hurricane while we were there is another story!

I went several times since we lived in FL. I can't remember how excited I was. I know that we are taking our kids for the first time in April. They are +13 and 8. They have no clue and hope not to tell them until we pull up. I know my wife and I are very excited. We are acting like little kids every night. We have only 39 days left.:sohappy:

I was just a baby the first time we went, and my nieces were all babies too. I think the best comparison I can make is last week when we booked our upcoming trip. My almost six year old niece was beaming from ear to ear.

The first time I went I was married with an 18 month old. (she's 28 now) My husband had been before. So both my baby daughter and I were seeing it for the first time. I do remember the ride on the monorail and seeing the castle in the distance as we got closer and how exciting it was.

The first time I went to Disney-land” was in 1959. My father drove the family from Boston across the US to Southern California, just like the Griswold family, to visit his twin brother. His brother had settled there after WWII. We did the whole nine yards, Knott’s Berry Farm, San Diego Zoo but after watching “Uncle Walt” on TV the jewel in the crown was Disneyland.

The First time I went to Disney-World was in 1995 when I was a newly retired Army Officer and just married. My DW had been once circa 1982 I believe Epcot had just opened then. She wanted to go back for a honeymoon. I said “okay” not realizing that I’d get “hooked” on the place.

It was early 1996 and DH and I were talking about what to do for vacation. He said lets take the kids to Disney...I was like we cant afford Disney. The topic came up a few more times and I agreed and went on with the beach again?? He final said the girls and I are going to Disney in September if you want to come come if not we will go without you. He called and booked us in a room at CBR. I was excited but did not know how we would pay for it. We got there and I paniced the entire trip about money...dont remember much about this trip other then worring about money and crying at breakfast that I did not want to leave. Even thought now I dont recall much from our first trip to rememebr that I fell in love with Disney and hated to leave. We have now been back 11 times and 12th is in 167 days!!!! So I have me DH to blame for my love of Disney and Mickey Mouse!!!!! :sohappy: The family ask we every trip now if i will cry again when its time to leave...and I do tear up on the way back to the airport.

94, my parents took my family. We only went cause it was cheaper than Cyprus and she thought the girls would like it. It was probably the most understated event ever as we knew next to nothing and it was "just a proper holiday" as Mrs Sak and I hadnt had a true break for years.

It lit the candle of interest and now after a bit of a gap till our return in 98 has become an annual event. So much so that my youngest would probably favour a trip to Cyprus or Ibiza.

The first time I went I was 25 and I went with my 19 year old sister. People thought we were crazy to want to go there. When we got there we found about this new place called Epcot that was going to open in a month. People really thought we were crazy when we told them we going back in six months see this new place.

I can't remember the exact moment because I was three but I do remember packing my pink barbie camera and trying to bring a small water gun for the pool. Apparently I remember what MK was because I cried when we missed the bus. I had no idea what WDW was only that it was apparently going to be hot there. I do remember being told for the second time it was on my 7th birthday and for the 25th anniversary because we watched the planning video and everything.

Okay right there I am sorry I have to ask. I'm not a teenager by any means, but this slang I see on here like DW, DS, DH what in the world is that? I swear I have never seen that outside of this site? Can someone tell me what this means? I am not into the "text messaging lingo" nor do I care but I am curious what this means

:) have now had that glorious experience 3 times!!

1st - in 2007 we told my parents that we were surprising them with a trip to Disney World in Orlando - most expenses paid!!

2nd - I won a competition at the end of last year for 2 adults & 2 children to go to Disney World. We have just recently given that to our best friends and their two daughters (aged 5 & 9) who would otherwise never afford it. We devised a treasure hunt type game to reveal our exciting gift. (they are now going next weekend!!!!)

3rd - Again, at the end of the last year we surprised my parents again with another 'most expenses paid' trip to Disney this year (2011) and we are off in May!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

:sohappy:

Just out of curiousity is it not easier to say the ACTUAL words? Son, daughter, wife, husband?

I guess I'm more straightforward when I type

Theyre not terms I use but being ex military Im used to a world full of acronyms and abbreviations and dont really notice their use. Some folk just use it to speed things up.

I have been going since the year it opened.. 1971 or no later then spring of 72.. My parents had been to Disney land.. in fact ..they went and never even told us that they had gone.. they did a day trip from Las Vegas..

So where ever we went, they seemed to know where the 'best seating was,. and what was the "best value " based on ticket cost..

what was really disappointing to me , is that you couldn't "trade up " A tickets for an E ticket..

I know for a fact that in my desk back home, some where I have tickets from my first trip to Disney World. so I have been going for close to 20 years more then some of you..

and again.. right from the start..

it was my family's big deal to go to Florida as early as 67, 68, and my parents took another honeymoon trip to Miami beach.. long before Disney came to the state.. either 50, or 51.. something like that.. when you could afford to get a hotel on Miami beach..
