Do you remember the first time you were told/told someone you were going to Disney?

I don't remember huge amounts as I was only 9 when we went in 1990. But being a kid from the UK it was a huge deal because nobody went to WDW.

God knows how my parents afforded it, but it was amazing! I was just sad it took me 19 years to get back :(

The only bits I really remember is Mr Toads wild ride (i think it freaked me out a bit) and Toontown (or whatever incarnation it was called then).

I have only a few pictures but my fave one is my dad posing outside of "Goofy's Barber Shop" (he is a barber).

Last years trip was almost like a first visit again, and man I can't wait for next years :)

I first went sometime in the early to mid 80's

There was a grocery store up here that was running a promo (Acme Markets). You saved your register receipts and after you had a certain amount, you could buy discounted plane tickets on PEOPLES EXPRESS (Hows that for a throwback). They divided the country into three zones, east to west and it was like $39 for a one zone flight, $59 for a two, and $79 for a three.

Orlando was a one zone flight.

My parents set up a trip, but it was more of a trip to Florida than it was to WDW. We stayed in a condo in Kissimee and went to WDW for two days, and also did a bunch of other Florida tourist type things while there.

So it was more of a "guess what, we are going to Florida" than a "guess what, we are going to WDW" type thing.

The year was 1990 and my parents had ripped us out of the only home we had even known (Newfoundland) and moved us to Ontario in search of work and a better life. But like all good Newfies, the mainland's grass wasn't greener and my parents decided to move us back to Newfoundland. Instead of doing the whole Uhaul thing we put our funiture and stuff on a truck and let a moving company take care of it this time. We started the trek back to Newfoundland... and we crossed the US boarder (which we didn't find odd as we had driven back and forth to Ontario before and my father would sometimes cross the boarder and drive through the northern States). I have no idea where we were but my father asked me and my brother where we would like to go in the US. We shouted Santa's Village (someplace we had saw or visited in the past on our way through one of the US States)! My father said, "How about Disney World!?!"
Apparently he had to pull over the car b/c my brother and I were screaming so loudly! Ahhhh, fond memories.

Florida isn't technically "on the way" to Newfoundland but it was a great trip back home!!!

Yeah, but Santa's Village is pretty sweet too. :) (been there about a dozen times myself - I assume you are talking about the one in the White Mountains area of New Hampshire)
