I don't put salt on melons, but I do put lemon on my melons and other fruits and veggies.

Actually, I have apples and pinneaple with hot peppers powder... :slurp:

My mom taught me to eat hot pepper powder on on some fruits, but I never tried it on apples. That sounds good :slurp: . My favorite is the pepper powder on mangos and oranges...that is very yummy :slurp: .

Never heard of putting salt on watermellon or any other fruit for that matter. But then again it's a moot point for me anyway since I never touch salt.

Seeing where you are from, maybe this is a Michigan thing. That's where I was living when I started doing this.

Actually, I was born in Iowa...so that's where I started it. Most of my family think it's gross.

. . . everyone's going to think it's some down-South redneck thing since we're both from Alabama.

I put salt on my watermelon when I eat close to the rind. I started putting salt on watermelon when I lived in Alabama. My favorite cousin put it on and I always did what she did at that time (I was 4). :lookaroun

I was born in Michigan, moved to Alabama for my "formative" years, moved back to Michigan to start school. My brother claims I am the furthest person from a "redneck". He would know, as I consider him one! :drevil:

Oops, sorry. :lookaroun

If it makes you feel better, my best friend from here doesn't like salt on her watermelon. :)

I put salt on cantaloupe & watermelon if it doesn't have much flavor. If it has a nice sweet flavor, I don't salt it. It might be a south thing, since I got it from my mom who's from OK.

Most of our kinfolk put salt on watermelon. I however, can't stand the smell of any kind of melon. and sugar on tomatoes? that's interesting! I do add a bit of sugar in my tomato based gravies but I've never heard of that. but then again, most of you don't add crab boil to potato salad either........
