Do you "move in" to your room?

I always say I'm going to put all of our clothes and shoes into the dressers and closets, but the excitement over finally being at WDW is so strong that we're usually bolting out of the room so we can start enjoying our vacay. I mean, who wants to sit in their room folding and putting away clothes when they could be on their way to a park, heading to DTD, going to an ADR, or exploring their resort?

Still, I can sometimes feel claustrophobic in the hotel rooms...especially if I spend a week having us all live out of 4 large suitcases + carryons. So, I'm seriously considering taking the time to "move in." It's a warm weather trip, so I plan on ziplock bagging outfits for the kids to make things easier (helped a lot with our last warm weather trip), but I still don't know.

So, do you "move in" or do you "live out of your cases?" And do you have any tips for either?

We definitely "move in". We unpack most everything once we are checked in and in our room. We just consider it part of our vacation. I think it makes it more homey, if you will. I pack all our clothes in sets so all that's needed is to take the set at the top of the drawer. We also repack each day. After we take off our clothes for the day we loosely fold them and put them in the suitcase. That way a big chunk of packing is already done by the end.

It's just my daughter and I so we usually sleep in one bed and the other is covered in our clothes, etc. I have every intention of putting stuff in drawers but get too excited to get out the door. I do "move in" to the bathroom and line my products/makeup up so I can be out the door quick!

I also use one of the beds to spread out my stuff and we sleep in the other bed. There are not always enough hangers to hang all of my clothes so I just lay them flat on the bed.

This is all soooooo interesting. I never really even thought about the psychological aspect of unpacking our stuff and having the bags out of sight/out of mind. I still don't know if we can swing it. If you're anything like me, you probably are running on minimal sleep at best on day 1. Still, if I can pack wisely, I might be able to put everything away on nt 1 once the kids are in bed while my photos are uploading. We rarely bring things that need to go in the closet, but if I stick with the baggie idea for the girls stuff and just scoop my stuff into a drawer...we should be pretty good. I always unpack the bathroom stuff, so that's no biggie and I usually set up a laundry bag in the closet...so that should still be good.

I can't say I'm much of a germaphobe, so that usually doesn't factor into my planning, but I know I really should start being more mindful of potential bed bugs. I always say I'm going to check and then never do. I just don't want negligence in that area to literally come up and bite us one day. Still, I could see me pushing it off again this trip since we have a busy time upon arrival- assuming our flight is on schedule...DME to AKL, check in, hopefully settle into room briefly, head to Kidani for dinner at Sanaa, take bus to MK and then boat or monorail to Poly to catch Wishes, then back to MK for a bus back to AKL. I'm going to be ready to drop! ;)

Thanks everyone! I just want to try and make our room feel less claustrophobic. It was one of my biggest issues at WL and considering the similarities at AKL, trying to make it better this time around. :)

We need time for things to happen.
Totally move in.
I can see how people would think it's a waste of time, but to me it serves the exact opposite purpose.
If I know where all my stuff is, I won't spend anytime at all looking for it. A few minutes at the beginning of the vacation saves so much time and effort in the morning, evenings and breaks during the day.

The other part is this:
We're not messy people at home, but we're not super neat either, life just moves to fast at home to get control of those things.
Being in room gives you that fresh start to have a place for everything and everything in it's place ; )

We move into the room. It only takes us about 10-15 minutes to unpack, like some people have said it just makes it feel more homey. When we have gone around the holidays I take some decorations (a little tree & window clings) to make it more homey and keep us in the holiday mood.

Living out of suitcases as we speak!

My husband moves in to the point of the ridiculous. All nice shirts and pants hung perfectly in the closet, all other clothes set neatly in the drawers, all toiletries either set out in the bathroom or left in his toiletry bag on shelf under the sink. Me, I live happily out of a suitcase (a neat suitcase but a suitcase none the less.) All my toiletries are kept under the sink in either a cosmetic bag (closed) or one of those travel kits that hold about 20 pounds. All extra money, IDs, my jewelry and anything valuable goes into the safe. The room is kept immaculate at all times. When we leave the room in the morning, any and all trash is put in waste cans, the coffee mugs and machine are cleaned, all used towels are put in a pile in the bathroom, the bed is almost made and no clothing is seen. I love coming back to a really clean room.
It's as though you're talking about me point by point with one exception (Wait, are we married? Is that you, my pet? Did you join the forum without my knowledge?)
The exception involves the drawers. Years ago I was staying at a nice Hilton on the west coast of Florida, and one of the drawers was filled with an enormous amount of ladies' undergarments, used. I've never fully recovered.

Yes dear, it is I and I stuffed all those used frillies in there myself to get you over "the drawers." ;)

We never unpack. Interesting story. We found old chicken and garbage in a drawer once. It looked like someone was eating out of the drawer and just closed it. Knowing Mousekeeping doesn't clean these drawers out makes everything staying in my suitcase a much better option for us. Plus the thought the person before you put their dirty clothes in that drawer you are putting your clean clothes in. o_O It's only me and my daughter so we share a bed and the extra one holds everything else. We make stacks of the clothes we need each day then in the evening we roll the dirty clothes and put them right into the empty suitcase.

One Little Spark...
I do. I have a whole "ritual" to get settled in the room. I won't go into to much detail, but it involves setting up drawers for specific functions, clearing out the nightstand and setting it up and a charging station, list goes on...

Lol, this happened to me once at a Holiday Inn in Indiana. I informed the front desk that there were clothes in the drawers and a pair of sandals on the shelf under the nightstand. They asked me to put it all in the plastic laundry bag and bring it to the front desk. It made me wonder why would they leave all that stuff.

We move in the the bathroom, use the safe and the kids unpack their stuffies and cuddlies but otherwise we live out of the suitcase. On our honeymoon I forgot to remind DH of his moved in clothes and forgot one draw of shorts and t-shirts behind. Have not lived it down to this day and we will be married for 14yrs tomorrow. So living out of the suitcase works for us - I am going to look at packing in baggies for the kids outfits and I pack some extra hangers for my and DD dress and pretty things.

We definitely move in at WDW, but that's usually the only place. You can find your things easier, without digging through a bunch of clothes. Your things won't get wrinkly, which means no ironing!

This really freaks me out  That is so gross. I've never thought about the fact that the drawers might be dirty. Maybe I will put a towel down in them before I put my clothes in next time…

We definitely "move in"...but AFTER we spend time at the parks or DTD. It's pretty much a dump and run for us.

After checking into the room, we head immediately out to the park leaving the suitcases and carry on bags where they lay until we get back to the room that evening. Then we move in, arranging everything where we want them to be. Assign drawers for each of us. The table gets taken over by my trip plan sheets, like a military general laying out his battle plans. The bureau top gets our assorted snacks arranged across for easy access. The refrigerator gets bottles of soda, water and any food stuff that needs to be cooled. The sink top gets my wifes things and my shaving kit contents laid out. The safe locks up any cash, gift cards, travel tickets etc for safe keeping.

Willing to do anything if it would get me to Disney.:D I'm good at being organized but I wish my son took more after me in that regard. Last time we went together, my side of the room, clean, neat, organized. His side a complete and utter disaster. Don't know what the mousekeeper thought when she entered the room to clean.:D
