Do you "move in" to your room?

I always say I'm going to put all of our clothes and shoes into the dressers and closets, but the excitement over finally being at WDW is so strong that we're usually bolting out of the room so we can start enjoying our vacay. I mean, who wants to sit in their room folding and putting away clothes when they could be on their way to a park, heading to DTD, going to an ADR, or exploring their resort?

Still, I can sometimes feel claustrophobic in the hotel rooms...especially if I spend a week having us all live out of 4 large suitcases + carryons. So, I'm seriously considering taking the time to "move in." It's a warm weather trip, so I plan on ziplock bagging outfits for the kids to make things easier (helped a lot with our last warm weather trip), but I still don't know.

So, do you "move in" or do you "live out of your cases?" And do you have any tips for either?

Upon arrival it's, dump the suitcases in the room and get out to do something. Then when we return, we'll take out the toiletries and situate them. Then we live out of the suitcases for the rest of the clothes. Dirty clothes go into their own dirty clothes bag so there isn't any contamination.

Consider this is coming from a germophobe, bedbug a phobe-don't know the name for that one- but, I would never, ever, put my clothes in the drawers at any hotel/resort. I have all our clothes matched for each day in hanging garment space bags. Each person has their own bag(s). The only things not hanging, clothes wise, are pj's, and undies which are in a small duffle. I take the garment bags out of the luggage and hang as soon as we get in the room. Each of us has an empty space bag that we use for our dirty clothes. They are left in the garage when we get home and brought it and washed one bag at a time. Linens are washed and repacked immediately for our next trip. Note--I am a germophobe for health reasons. It is worth the work to be able to go wdw, and since I've be doing this for 10 years, it's second nature.

I have never been one to put stuff in drawers; I was always afraid I would leave something behind.
But years ago, I witnessed an incident that cemented my practice of never using hotel drawers. I was at the beach with a bunch friends. One got really, really drunk. In the middle of the night (while still drunk and sleepwalking), he got up, opened one of the drawers, and took a leak in it. No drawers ever again for me! I will hang some stuff up, and if a long trip, I have one of those vertical shelf things that hangs from a closet rod that I will use (especially with all the extra stuff for my kid).

POP (?) recently I will now take a blue light in and check the rooms/beds before I take anything into ANY hotel room, not just WDW!

Blue light? I have never heard of this for BBs. I do always check for them before I even bring my suitcases into a room. I pull back the sheets at the corners near the headboard and search around, especially in the seams. I try to look around the floor and the furniture around the bed also.

Most people don't realize bedbugs live in corners, behind the headboard, in drawers, etc. They do not stay on the bed. I now carry bedbug spray every trip. I also saw where dryer sheets will keep them away if you put them between the mattress and under the sheet. Don't know if it works, but I do it anyway. I always check the room before we bring in our luggage, but since the nymphs are clear and easy to miss, I still hang everything in the space bags.

We're suitcase people. Very few items get to hang in the closet.

As for the rest, I pack in Tupperware. No, really. Anything moist goes in the containers. The larger container has also been used as a foot tub and a washtub on different trips. Packing the suitcase is like adult-level Tetris!

In the suitcase, the clothes are folded or rolled then, when they are dirty, put in a dirty laundry bag. I usually lay out the next day's clothing before I go to bed at night.

My home life does not have the same level of organization.

My nephew left a drawer full of clothes at Pop a few years ago. I got a phone call the next day from the hotel staff, and they shipped it all home free of charge. He lives out of his suitcase on trips now ;)

I move everything in as soon as I get to the room, but it only takes a few minutes because it's usually just me. It just makes things easier on check out day for me because as I wear things and they get dirty, I can just pack them. No need to run around panicking that I lost something.

I often don't, but it depends entirely on the length of the stay. Though somehow, at WDW - I always do. That said, I found the Swan more amenable to this than POR; simply for the number of drawers available and the size of the bathroom. The problem with POR was that the murphy bed only has two drawers, then you have the little "closet" area behind the curtained-off "bathroom."

Ugh...This is what worries me about POR. There will be 5 of us for 8 days in the bayou rooms. I can't stand to have the room so messy but with little space and no large dresser i guess i will have to deal with it. We were going to get adjoining rooms but like the idea of saving around $800.00 better.

That's a substantial amount to save, and I'd say that would trump all... We weren't unhappy with the POR room; it was nicely done, etc. But the "bathroom" area and murphy bed was a little strange. I don't recall offhand, but I think CS was somewhat similar (sans murphy bed). You do also have the nightstand, and some space underneath the sink. If you're creative, you'll be able to stash almost everything... Almost. Personally though, it wasn't really our style.

We move in. When we get back to the hotel room that first night and get the kids tucked in, we go about unpacking. We bring extra hangers and hang all the shirts. Everyone gets a drawer and the wife often gets two. Everything is organized, shoes are lined up, Snacks, individual drink mix pouches, granola mix, etc.. is placed in a clear tub, etc..and everything is laid out. A large suitcase is designated the dirty clothes suitcase. Each night dirty clothes are placed in a garbage bag inside that suitcase. We are there 10+ days and I like to be organized and be able to find stuff. Plus the rooms arent' big enough to be slobs.

We unpack. I bring all our hanging stuff on plastic hangers like the stores give you when you but something. My toiletries are in a case that hangs up. I got a laundry bag from the dollar store. After I arrive I just grab the hangers and hang them in the closet with the clothes already on them (packed that way). After use you can throw the hangers away leaving room for all that stuff you bought while at Disney! Folded things put in drawers after checking them for bugs of course, then hang the toiletries in the bathroom! Takes only a few minutes and I can find everything.

My DH unpacks - hangs up his clothes, puts fold-ables in the drawers, etc. He's a little OCD. My kids and I live out of our suitcases. We just put dirty clothes in the top netted part of the suitcase when we're done. It doesn't bug us. Maybe this time I'll take the time to unpack, but I doubt it :)
That's how I usually roll on the shorter trips. Wear something, up in the netting. Next. Unpack a suitcase, whuh?

When I go to WDW, I usually have a bunch of nice(r) polo shirts and I at least hang those up so as not to get wrinkly. Once I get started though...
