Without the wand, SSE is so amazing that it takes my breath away when I'm walking towards it on that first Epcot visit of the trip.
With the wand, it's just not that impressive.

Nope. Don't miss the wand. My first visit to WDW was back in 1984, so to me, the wand was the tacky add-on. I think it was clever to have it for 2000, but it should have been a one year thing and then gone. That it hung on for so long needlessly was a shame. (The gold on the castle was cool for a year too but would have been really annoying if it stayed for years and years and years. Or the birthday cake makeover for years and years.) I view the wand the same way.

Spaceship Earth is understated in it's design, but that's what makes it so bold and amazing. I much prefer it now that the wand has been removed. It's back to it's former glory.

I enjoyed the fluttering effects of the lettering and stars

I had no problem with the wand...all of WDW is about the magic of Disney and the wand brought this to the (originally sterile) Epcot. And the fluttering effects (in the wind) of the lettering and the stars was mezmorizing to look at. Epcot magically brings 11 nations together around a shared lagoon, lets you soar on a kite, visit Nemo and Crush in the seas, go back in time to the dinosaurs, and fly a mission to Mars...symbolically that where the wand fit in.
I just realized that since the wand has been removed, my daughter has seemed to lose all interest in going to Epcot?!?

Maybe they will add two big black ears to it now making it one of the biggest (not so) hidden Mickey's at WDW.

I was ready with C4 explosives to help when it was announced they were going to tear it down...does that give you any idea?

I truly cannot understand the people who liked it, it was sooo cheaply done, it would have been right at home in some uglier parts of Las Vegas.

Nope, I teared up seeing SSE wand-less on my last trip. I think it looks bigger without it :D

Now i'm not one of the ones that was like "BURN IT TO THE GROUND" but it's nice to see SSE back to its original glory.

I seem to be in this huge minority that misses the Wand a little bit. I just want to find out if I am the only one.

I probably am.

YES, I DO miss it (witness my icon.)
Like many who've posted, it was there on my first trip to EPCOT with my daughter, who thought Mickey's Hand was so cool! So, it has a soft place in my heart and always will.

As for being in the minority by missing the wand, I doubt that. On THIS board, we probably are, but you're not going to get a representative sampling here. Anyone who disagrees with the "owners" is often attacked. (witness my signature)

However, neither do I think that the majority of people hate the wand.
I would bet that if you polled every guest that came through Disney's gates, most people would be indifferent to whether it's there or not.

As long as EPCOT itself is there, I don't think the average person really cares.

I actually do miss it. As far as it diminishing the size and scale of the icon, I really kid of disagree. I find that it looks smaller now than it did with the wand. It's all a matter of perception, I suppose. I don't think the wand cheapened it, I thought it brought some color and dynamics to it. After having the wand for so many years, it now seems a little bland.

I never found the sphere bland before the wand, and as time passes, I have the feeling I won't view it as bland once again, but to me, the wand was a positive (Then again, I'm not a purist as I believe change is necessary, even at WDW).

I did like the wand, but also I don't really miss it.

As I all ready said in the threads when the wand was being taken down, I did like it and served as a nice enhancement to Spaceship Earth for those 7+ years it was there. But also, I am happy to see Spaceship Earth back to it's original glory. So while I liked it, no, I don't really miss it.

I agree. The geosphere just doesn't seem as impressive. It does seem smaller and less imposing. I too, do miss the wand.
