Do you have any fun activities to pass the time by while waiting in line?

Aside from enjoying the theming...

I'm a physics teacher and my fiance is also a gigantic science nerd. We enjoy discussing the physics of the rides in line. We sometimes make back of the envelope calculations (How fast are we moving at the bottom of SM, how strong do the cables for TT have to be, etc). This is when I come up with some of my best ideas for fun questions or activities for my physics students. Last year I had my students estimate the tension in the cables that could be used to pull down ride vehicles on TT (since the cars accelerate at a rate greater than gravity). 45 minutes in line brings about these ideas for me.

Wait.... thats not dorky is it?...:lookaroun

Don't think of it as dorky, think of it as Geek Chic!

I actually think that is a cool idea!

Good thread!

My boyfriend and I have a game that we play...good for the plane ride, waiting in lines and sometimes while at a restaurant waiting for food.

We call it "the movie game" and one person starts and says a movie and an actor in the movie...

ex: tom hanks in philadelphia

then the other person can either jump to another tom hanks movie, or take an actor from philadelphia to jump to another movie

ex: tom hanks in forest gump
OR
denzel washington in remember the titans

and then you continue from there. It's a good game because it's pretty easy and there are SO many movies to choose from that it keeps the game going from one queue to the next. We usually play "no sequels" and cannot go back to the same movie after it's been said, but you can repeat actors as long as you don't use the same movies.

This started out as a drinking game...where the person has to continually drink their drink while they thought of another movie/actor. But we Disneyfied the game for waiting in lines! I hope it makes sense...otherwise I'm just rambling! haha!

P.S. I always jump from forest gump to gary sinese in mission space...it's pretty funny to use a disney ride's actor (judy dench, patrick warbuton, ellen, etc..)

Its always fun singing songs from the ride. Many a Splash Mountain waits have passed by quickly with my brother and I singing several chorus' of "Everybody's got a Laughin' Place" or even the odd "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow".

I either look for hidden Mickey's, or talk to the people that I'm in line with. It's fun to get to know other people who love Disney just as much as you do!

I like to just look at people, listen to their conversations, watch the kids climbing all over the rails, discuss what/where we'll do next, make notes on my journal, etc.

When I was in DHS a few weeks ago there was a little boy (probably 4 or 5) climbing under the rails in the toy story line. his dad just watched him! the kid was just running around, hiding under the props, climbing on things, ect. I was with some friends but i was just thinking, "man if i ever did that here with my parents i would get smacked!", i mean my mom yells at me if i sit on the rails!

If I am by myself I will eavesdrop on other people's conversation. :lookaroun

If I am with my friends I will just talk, so that people around us have the chance to eavesdrop on our conversation.

My wife and I do alot of the same thing mentioned already...

*we play the "find someone who should be on What Not To Wear" game
*look for Hidden Mickeys, often overlooked details, small things that make the theming perfect
*take a few pictures, and look at the pictures we've taken so far
*occasionally text family and friends
*check the WDW Lines or Ride Hopper apps on our phones
*check the weather and radar maps on the phone if it's cloudy
*talk about a previous or future meal
*plan the next ride, place to go, show to see
*talk about what vinylmations we just bought or hope to get
*discuss what the rest of the day/weekend has in store
*most of all we are just enjoying each other's company at one of favorite places to be :)

For some reason whenever I read the comments here and think about "standing in line" I can only picture people here and myself standing in line for fantasyland rides. I dont know why? Maybe because they're the most boring lines to stand in, with literally nothing to look at except the same people when you zig zag.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

My wife and i usually spend the time devising ways to keep Brazillian tour groups behind us in the queue:drevil:
Mostly we just chat and pay attention to the theming and people around. We dont see the point in watching movies etc as you are at Disney and might as well make the most of it .
