Do you get "defensive" about Disney?

I'm sure all of us die hards have heard people complain about the prices of Disney and how it's "not worth it" and have had people basically tell you you are stupid for wanting to go so much. When I explain to people that I am part of a club that lets me be able to go multiple times every year they just can not believe that I would spend money on something like that. You also hear people talk about how the "lines are too long" and the "food is too high" and "if you've been there once you've seen it all" and blah, blah, blah. I understand that people have different opinions and I ABSOLUTELY respect that and am fine with it. But man at the same time there's a little part of me that gets a little miffed when I hear people spewing just pure ignorance about Disney and trying to make people think they're some kind of "expert" when they've only been there once. Yes I understand that Disney is a mega business and the people at the TOP really could probably care less about me but I TOTALLY believe the CM's at the bottom really want me to always have a good time and DO care about my feelings about certain things and I do get a little defensive when talking about my beloved Disneyworld. Am I the only person here that feels this way?

I will defend Disney until the end of time. Sometimes I won't agree with something they do, but usually I will find some good and try to make others we it too.

If people are ignorant, and just don't understand what Disney World actually is, then I start to get defensive because no one should ever hate Disney.
I hate the opinion that older guests and adults think meet and greets are for kids. It's for everyone when ever your young or not.

Man you aint kidding. Before we had kids we were obsessed with doing as many meet and greets as possible. We've always loved doing character meals too. That's really how we get the photo ops now that we do have kids because waiting in line a long time for a pic is tough for little kids. They LOVE having the characters come to the table though. Chef Mickey's is my personal favorite character meal but Hollywood and Vine is what I would have to say is the best "experience" from a kid's perspective because it is just so highly interactive. I have a video of my little girl dancing with Sophia that I wouldn't take a million dollars for.

I don't get defensive anymore. I have learned to dismiss those criticisms. People who don't share my interests aren't criticizing me personally, and I can't be bothered to try to change their opinions. I ain't got time for that.

The the only time I defend Disney is when people are spreading downright lies about Walt Disney himself or when people are stating facts which are completely inaccurate, and I mean very inaccurate. Other than that I just let people get on with it and move on.

They are just jealous! Luckily I have not run into many of those folks... lol... but my theory is they never got to go to Disney as children, and still harbor resentment over never getting to go! Like Kevin Spacey's character in Fred Clause that hated Santa because he didn't get what he wanted for Christmas one year. :D

Most of us were infected with Disney Magic when we were kids... and there is no cure for it.

I cannot stand Meet and Greets. However, I understand their appeal and necessity. Do I think they should go away? No, not at all. I appreciate the M&G in that they are something that children (and some adults) absolutely adore and they are also people eaters. Can you imagine what the attraction lines would be like if they did not have M&G locations? :jawdrop: It doesn't mean anything just because I don't like them. Oh, and will I stand in a 2 hour line so my children or grandchild can see a character? You bet I will and with a smile on my face despite a desire to be anywhere else. ;)

I get defensive when people complain its too expensive....it's not if you do your research. I 've booked a few trips thru expedia and AAA. When I tell people that our May of 2015 trip for 2 adults and 3 kids(2 over 10, so Disney adults) for 5 nights at POR with flights and 4 day hoppers BOOKED THRU DISNEY was only $835 per person they are SHOCKED! I also can't stand when people complain about the price of food and drink, especially when they live around here(Philly) a bottle of Dasani has been $5 for YEARS at Phillies games...half that price at Disney? Yes please! It just comes down to people who are uneducated about the situation...

Like others have said, I used to get defensive (you can have the coolest head in the world and still get ruffled when someone badmouths one of the things you hold most dear), but now I've started just feeling bad for those people. If the most important thing they have to do on any given day is try to tear down something I love, 1) they're living a sad life, and 2) I for sure do not want them in my WDW, where already a lot of the other guests leave much to be desired. Stay home if you hate it so much and I'll happily go as often as possible ;)

I get more defensive when they say "Why go to Disney when you can go to Six Flags for half the price? It's the same thing. It's just an amusement park.

PFFFT. uh.. PFT. NO. I'm so defensive about this topic I had to make an 8 minute video discussing the difference between an amusement park and a theme park.

I know exactly what you're talking about! Living here in east TN a lot of people go to Dollywood. I've not been there in probably almost 20 years and have no desire to ever go there again. I always refer to taking your kids there instead of Disneyworld as "child abuse". LOL!

Glad you pick you battles wisely as it really is important that people understand the difference between amusement parks and theme parks. Thank you for helping clear it up.
