I tend to be a little defensive when the subject of Disney comes up. I tread lightly until I figure out if the other person is pro or con on the whole Disney park thing. Most people are pro, which opens the discussion up and I can be the park expert we all know and love. But if there's disdain, I'll kinda back off and just "let it go".
The only exception is, as people have already pointed out, when the Disney parks get compared to my local Six Flags, as in "Why would you spend all that money at Disney when you could just go to Six Flags any time?" I try to explain that one, as there's really no comparison. Sometimes I'm successful at explaining, and sometimes the other person walks off shaking their head and wondering why I'm so stupid. I just shrug it off, and am happy with the knowledge that they just don't know what they're talking about.
Years ago I worked at an event in the Anaheim Convention Center, and talked one of my crewmates into going to Disneyland on an off day. He really didn't want to go, having visited his local amusement park and thinking he knew what DL was all about. I promised him that after a few hours if he wasn't digging things, I'd refund his admission cost. Well, the first ride we went on was the Indiana Jones Adventure. He came off of that smiling, and said "I get it now - don't worry about having to pay me back!"
