Not quite sure what you're asking.

Are you saying that a press event costs a ton of money in itself or something else? Sorry about that.

what if all they do is a 1-day press event....perhaps a large cake in the shape of SSE (sans wand).....

Well a one day press event wouldn't do much good if that's ALL they did, would it? It would probably be better to not even mention it than spend money on a one day event.

A cake wouldn't look the best on SSE, but I didn't mind the Castle Cake and if they did something similar with SSE and it was just for one year, I wouldn't have a problem. Heck I didn't even mind the wand.......for one year.

Of course I care about Epcot's 25th. It was the first non-Magic Kingdom park and was Walt's biggest dream (even though it never fully became what he wanted). Not celebrating Epcot's 25th would be like not celebrating Magic Kingdom's 25th. Both parks are very important.

What could be done for the celebration? How `bout:
  • New World Showcase Films
  • El Rio upgrade (already happening)
  • Spaceship Earth upgrade (supposedly already happening)
  • New Soarin film
  • New Merchandising campain ($$$)
  • Banners, commercials, advertisements, etc.
  • Special Events in the Oddysey or Milennium pavillion
  • Updated Illuminations
I'd go if there was a 25th Celebration. Heck, I'll probably go even if there isn't going to be one.

Honestly, I would find it interesting, but I couldn't care less either way.
And in all modesty, I don't think I'm the only one with this opinion.

I predict all of the above.

I definitly think Epcot's 25th should be celebrated. It seems a shame for it to not have some kind of fanfare. For me, Epcot is my favorite park. I would hate to see it turn 25 and not have a celebration that is deserves.

Being that I was there the first year that "EPCOT Center" was open, I really would love to see the 25th anniversary celebrated. EPCOT was a HUGE move by Disney and went through so many changes before it was finaly realized.

I think that all of these except the new Soarin film will happen in time for Epcot's 25th.

yup... as Celebration

Kind of a misconception, really. EPCOT as invisioned by Walt Disney consisted of three principal areas: a "world showcase" downtown district, an "industrial showcase" where companies would meet and show off new ideas and technologies, and a housing district for the "citizens" of Epcot (more or less affordable housing for cast members of the WDW resort). The "world showcase" in the original plans is basically what you see today in Epcot. It was little more than a shopping/dining district for the guests visiting Walt Disney World as well as the "citizens" of EPCOT itself. The city itself would have been no more of a city than the average town you see built around a ski resort. It was mainly there to support the Magic Kingdom. Thankfully the concept was so strong that it was fully developed inside of Epcot Center (and even before that there were plans to make it an ungated development ala Downtown Disney).

The industrial showcase was little more than an expanded Future World, though it would have been far less about entertainment and more about real research and development. Nonetheless, it still made it to Epcot Center the theme park.

As far the housing district goes, yeah, that pretty much turned into Celebration. But I'm still waiting for affordable housing for cast members...

I still think a lot more people care about Epcot than the lowly fans on some message board. Whenever I travel to rural areas like back home in NC or out in the midwest the subject of Disney inevitably comes up. "Normal" people usually confuse Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom all the time and just call it all "Disney." They still almost always single out Epcot as a different entity. There is after all only one Epcot.

Without getting too deep into the whole zen of what EPCOT should and shouldn't be...

I'm perfectly happy to accept that EPCOT has to change over time. Look at it this way... we've always been told EPCOT was supposed to be somewhat of a permanent World's Fair. What if the 1964 World's Fair in New York didn't close in 1965? What if it stayed open till 1982? Wouldn't it have become outdated had it not been updated? Take a look at some of the exhibits there. What if they hadn't been updated for decades and decades? What about the 1939 Worlds fair held on the exact same land that would later house the '64 fair? If it had stayed open and hadn't updated for 1964, it would have been a joke.

EPCOT's gotta change over time (25 years is a heckuva long time, especially given the computer revolution). I'm willing to accept the change, but I also have respect for the park as it was and as it is. It remains my favorite Disney park. It has many milestones -- first Disney park of its kind, first non-MK style Disney park, and really the first great world's fair since 1964.

Take whatever position you like, but I intend to celebrate in my own little way.

Epcot Center was always designed with change in mind. The original pavillions called for overhauls once every 10 years. What totally blows is that the changes they implemented are 30 IQ points dumber than their predecessors.

I really could not see them just doing nothing at all. What-ever it may be I hope it's big! Hell I'd be happy it they just took down the stupid wand. In all seriousness, Epcot really deserves something special... lets just keep our fingers crossed that it dosnt involve painting SSE pink
