Epcot's 25th.

Yet Another Pin Celebration

YAPC.

There's the only celebration this milestone is worth of. Epcot is in far too decrepit of a condition to warrant anything less a wrecking crew and full reconstruction.

WDW's 35th was largely ignored, and if anything, THAT was a more imporant milestone than Epcot's 25th.

It won't appeal to anyone other than Disney fans and MAYBE... MAYBE... fans of the sponsors of the pavilions and selected students of the Sciences and Humanities.

ie- You've isolated the masses and won't make any money.

Market it wisely however, and make it a yearlong F&W + F&G festival combined.... then you've appealed to the adult masses. Add something for the kids, and voila... now it's worth it.

However, Epcot, as it presently is, isn't worth celebrating.

I think you would be VERY surprised. There are many other message boards on the net, many fans who do not frequent message boards, and even people who are new to the parks but would enjoy learning about the past. For example, a friend of mine spent his honeymoon at WDW this past summer mainly because of hearing me talk about the place all the time and whatnot. And he absolutely loved it. And guess what? He wanted to know more about previous attractions when he got back and I gave him some videos from my computer.

Just because you go a lot doesn't mean you're a big "fan". There are plenty of people that fill sports stadiums that could honestly care less about the outcome of the game, but they enjoy the atmosphere and the social aspects. And then there are also people who go that care about the outcome, but it doesn't really bother them when their team loses. I am not either and I'm not that way about WDW either. I'm not saying you like the parks less than me, but it's obvious you don't care about the attractions and park history as much as I do. You just go and enjoy what is there and love the atmosphere, but you don't really care who "wins or loses" and that's fine. But the easy way out of things like this is to say the majority won't care. However, if it's done well, people who know or care nothing about Epcot's past still might enjoy the exhibits and learn something as well.

It is simply not a very big group of people.....but again...these people are already going to the park.

So....if Epcot sees 11 million people each year, and the typical guest comes once every 5-7 years....the pool of Epcot visitors is about 60 million deep....the 200,000 forum members, or even if there are 10 non-forum member "fans"....let's say 2 million Epcot "fans".....it is not a big group of people. Should Disney spend their limited resources reaching out to a group of people that is less than 4% of their guest base?...especially when this groups is "loyal to a fault"

Speck, did you figure that people may be members of multiple forums in that count?

Epcot is my fav followed by DAK (DAK is gaining ground)

I could care less about MGM....

MK is good at Christmas for the MVMCP....other than that...it is too crowded...and I hate kids.

That's not what I'm trying to say. Remember you said it once yourself, contrary to popular belief Disney does go the extra mile for their guests. Are that many people going to get to stay in the Cinderella Castle suite? And are people going to go to WDW just to have the chance to stay there? I know there is a business reason behind doing that, but it doing things like that do make people feel better while they are at WDW and it improves the guest experience.

Also don't forget the large number of people who go to WDW all the time, but do not participate in online forums. I know that it is still a minority and fans will always be in the minority, but it's still a lot of people. Just because we keep going back doesn't mean that they can't get MORE money from us

but alas they are doing the "value adds" right now....so it is "done".....

what could they do that is "new" that could accomplish your desire and their needs?

Somehow, building a suite in SSE does not have the same thrill factor as sleeping in Cinderella castle has.....:lookaroun

That's the truth. 3rd behind Epcot and MGM for me right now and as the years go on, I appreciate the place more and more. And that's not even talking about the new attractions.

DAK is a park that has followed its vision...it is still very true to itself...the theming is amazing...

Epcot lost its vision, then changed its vision.....it is coming back....to the delight of millions and the pain of a select few.

MGM was a victim of its own success in the early days......it lost its focus and really never developed a new vision.....

Well, it is the second highest attended park at Walt Disney World...must be doing something right.

*shrug*
I should have added the "hold the Epcot of the past in your hearts" to my question.

I am a fan...but a fan for different reasons. I'm no less of a fan just because I don't live in the past.

I think you're still thinking way too big for the expectations that most of us here would have for a celebration here. They don't have to have a huge amount of money put into it. Not every single little thing Disney spends money on in the parks causes people to come back. Disney could do a lot less for the Flower and Garden Festival and people would still enjoy it and come back. If there wasn't a butterfly garden area, people would still come, but people seem to enjoy that little exhibit. Just a little exhibit here and there and some merchandise to sell wouldn't put much of a strain on the pocketbooks would it? Maybe stuff like that is more expensive than I am aware of so I could be wrong, but just putting a little plaque in front of each attraction that has a new "logo" for the current attraction in the style of the old logos would please a lot of people and then after the "celebration" take it down and never mention it again.

It IS possible to enjoy and honor the past without living there. Many fans loved World of Motion AND Test Track. What a concept? :animwink:
