Do they ever extend hours?

Like, for example the weekend of the 40th Anniversary? It's that time of year when the parks have ridiculous hours. MK closes at 7pm Friday Sep. 30th!! And only 9pm on the actual day of the anniversary.

Has disney ever extended hours after they post them?

And I guess a part B to my question - We were too late in booking for that weekend to get our first or second choice resort with an AP discount so we decided to stay offsite. First time in a while and it feels weird. Last I knew, nothing was officially set for the 40th, but any ideas if anything will require you to be a resort guest...like EMH? We are a little nervous about that.

Technically there is extended hours on the 30th and the 2nd. They're Halloween party nights and you have to buy a separate ticket. That's why the operating hours say they close at 7. The park is open for the party from 7pm-midnight.

Edit: I just checked the WDW park site and MK closes at 10pm on the anniversary date. Though that seems like the standard closing time for a non-party weekend. Maybe if they notice a above average number of guests in the few weeks they'll extend hours. I've noticed they did that before my trip this past spring.

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to the second question.

I've noticed on certain trips in the past that the posted closing time (according to the website or some other media) was a certain time (say, 10 PM) only to get to the park and find that closing time was posted as 11 PM or midnight. So yes, I have seen it happen before that closing time ends up being later than originally posted.

And for EMH, you do have to be a resort guest. Now if they simply choose to post the closing time as midnight, rather than 10 PM as originally posted, then that isn't EMH. That's simply a revision of the official closing time for all guests, so anyone could stay to that time, whether they are resort guests or not. But if it is Extra Magic Hours night, then you must be a resort guest to take advantage of that.

Happens almost every time we go. They'll have MK closing at 10pm on the Saturday and when we arrive it's changed to 11. Expect the same this year. Generally fall hours are shorter.

Sept 30 is a MNSSHP party evening so MK will close early. From Sept through the first couple of days in January if MK is shown as closing at 7 pm you know it's a hard ticket party evening.

True. In years past they have always stayed open until 11 or midnight when Food and Wine Fest really gets cranked up in October. Many of nights I've gone from Epcot to MK just to sober up a bit...

We were in the Magic Kingdom one night and they made an announcement that the park would be open 2 hours later than the posted time. We can't remember why though? Maybe the weather was real bad in the morning, sorry can't remember.:shrug:

I wasn't talking specifically about EMH, I was using that as an example. I was wondering if anyone thought there would be events or anything that, like EMH, would require you to be a resort guest. Hopefully that clears up my question a little.

They only move the closing times back when the resort crowd levels are at a certain occupancy, but yes it does happen quite a bit. Remember a lot can happen in 6 months.
