You can still use this while in the room. They’re not interested in getting into the room while you’re there, they want access while you’re gone. Giving today’s environment, I’m OK with this, 5 years ago, probably not.

I really do not like this. I have had items taken from the room before. Last trip they took a 6 pack of my sons underwear. Not a big dollar item but still made me forgo housekeeping for the rest of the stay.

I was at the Hilton Palace at DS this month and they didn't have that mechanical doorstop. The had a bolt, but I'm sure housekeeping knows how to undo the bolt in case of emergencies.

Too funny! The cynic in me thinks this probably has more to do with finding unauthorized pets than it does security. o_O
Seriously....what if people are leaving their pet chinchilla in the room. LOL

I don't like this. I forgo housekeeping mainly because I don't want them in my room. We are not messy and can easily take our own trash our(and do). I bring my own bed sheets and do not want them touching them to make the bed. So there is no reason for them to enter the room unless there is some kind of maintenance issue. And some times I like to sleep in and do not want to be disturbed or awakened by housekeeping.

It sounds like this has already caused a few issues. Won't take too many threats of lawsuit for this to be modified.
Your hotel room is protected by the 4th amendment just like your house. So sure housekeeping can legally snoop around the room but cops absolutely cannot. So even if they find something suspicious the cops won't be able to do anything without a court ordered search warrant.. It'll be a hot mess when they do this to the wrong person. Lawsuit in waiting.

I was more referring to the reported incidents involving staff already walking in on people (and children) who are not clothed, but that's a fair point too.

It gets hot in the parks, and we don't have kids, so we tend to strip down in the room. The 'do not disturb' sign has not been that effective, as it seems like we have had some kind of maintenance knock almost every trip.

Or maybe there's some kind of internal note on file that we hang around in our undies, and sending new castmembers by is some kind of hazing ritual!

Just a note, you can still forgo housekeeping. It just means a manager or maintenance person will be the one checking your room.

More invasion of privacy, I know many people who leave the sign on the door when they leave so that housekeeping doesn't go through their belongings while they are away. Guess it will be time to bring in personal safes and webcams to watch over the rooms while being away.

Also, how about the DVC rooms where housekeeping doesn't enter to change towels or make beds for four days. Now they are going to go into the room to just look around and rummage through your things?

Actually if you read the latest issue of the DVC Magazine it states that all DVC members staying on points will now receive daily trash service in 2018. You didn't think they were actually giving you something for nothing did you?

Which is completely unnecessary unless there is an issue. A person should have some expectation of privacy in a hotel room. If I am spending a day or two just lounging in my room, there is no reason for them to come "check" on me or enter without my permission. And like EvilChamelean said, what are they going to do about it if they walk in on someone with a bunch of guns?
