do fastpass lines really help anything??

Ah, I totally agree..Maybe they could fix this by the cast members standing by the machines telling people when there's no line, and explaining that it would be a quick wait to go on now, and that they could get a fastpass for somethign else. Of course, they wouldn't have to listen, but a lot of people jsut get one because they don't understand it.

I've seen this done the other way around. Cast member was explaining to guests about to get into a 45 minute queue for Living with the Land that they could get a fast pass for the attraction and go see Food Rocks or the Lion King and come back later instead of waiting in line.... just waiting.

I'm hoping that somewhere cast members are explaining this when people get fast passes for short wait lines.

PLEASE do not take Fast pass away...I have never found them to be an annoyance, rather they have probably increased my enjoyment of the park 10 fold. I enjoy the ability to get the pass, and even if I have to wait awhile for the time to go on the ride, I just hang around the ride, we also usually plan meals around the fast pass, we go and get one, and then go get dinner or lunch.
If you personally don't like the system, there is a SIMPLE answer: Don't use it. Don't suggest that something that benefits so many others be taken away.

Fastpass is an ingenious solution to a growing problem. However, as with most things, too much if a good thing can end up hurting you. Fastpass was designed to cut down wait times for major attractions. Attractions that some people wouldn't get to ride because of the long waits--such as Space Mountain, Test Track, Tower of Terror, etc. Where it reaches it's fault are those rides which don't have enormous wait times throughout the day, including Haunted Mansion, HISTA, and Primeval Whirl [don't focus on the examples, here]. All that does is make the standby line ten times longer. It also, in most cases, forces you to get a fastpass if you want to ride for that same reason.

[Big bitter moment coming]
Another total miss when it comes to implementing fastpass is for any show. My main example is Indiana Jones. This past trip (the week before Christmas) my brother, my dad and I decided to see Indiana Jones while my two sisters and my mom watched BatB. We got to the theater 30 minutes early--plenty of time you would think. After standing in line for those thirty minutes, we were told that it was now standing room only, and that we would not get a seat. This of course was no good for my dad, as he has a bad back, and would not have made it through the show. He knew he couldn't take it, so he left the theater. My brother and I stayed and watched. We had to stand and the VERY back of the theater, STANDING behind a wheelchair party (who were nice enough not to even care). I had to stand for thirty minutes waiting in line, only to stand for another thirty to watch the show. I was incredibly mad. After the show, I found the guy who looked the most in charge, and let him know how upset I was.

The show seats 2100. They give out 1800 fastpasses. For those of you who don't know math, that's about 86% of the seats are reserved for fastpass. I find that disgusting. Not only does this almost force you to get a fastpass if you want to see this show, it makes the standby line obsolete. When asked, all the man had to say was, "it's the new era." If this is the new era, you can count me out. We might as well go back to the ticket system, because that's what this basically is--you have to "reserve" your seat with a fastpass. Blows my mind.

Ok, now that that rant is over....

I had the same problem with WWTBAM a year or two ago. Out of 650 seats, they gave out about 500 fastpasses. It just doesn't seem right.

In my opinion, fastpasses should be left to those attractions in which the wait times are enormous for most of the day. Leave the shows and minor attractions out of it.

Jesus, do you have to make something out of nothing all the time?

Nontransferable; must be used by the same person on any and all days.

Non-transferrable means one person, one pass....multiple people cannot use the same pass. The pass says NOTHING about the necessity of being used by the person who used the admission ticket to acquire it.

Please, this isn't the crime of the century! Look elsewhere!

That's an interesting rationalization. However you paid money for the admission media and you are correct in that you may donate that to charity if you so desire. I have purchased many passes for friends and family as presents. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with that activity. However, you paid nothing for the Fastpass. All Roy Disney asks of you is to not abuse the Fastpass system and play by the rules. Did you ever consider the poor person standing at the Fastpass machine only to discover that all the Fastpasses were gone for the day? How generous is that of you?

Transfer means:

1 a : to convey from one person, place, or situation to another : TRANSPORT b : to cause to pass from one to another : TRANSMIT c : TRANSFORM, CHANGE

Another interesting rationalization. The next thing you know, you'll be defending pool hopping!

Fine. Forget generosity. Let's live in our own little bubble and make the Magic Kingdom uneventful to the individual.

Woody,

Did you get beat by a over zealous nun in your youth? I've heard of following the rules, but this isn't 1940 WWII we are talking about either

I'm not interested in being drawn into your juvenile little game.
You're beginning to aggravate me and a lot of other people with your taunting nonsense. Stop trolling the forum looking for arguments. I'm not in any position to warn you but take it as good advice from someone who has seen a lot of people go down this path and never make it back.

No, let's not forget generosity! But your perception of generosity is obviously far different than mine. I am sure that Roy Disney would frown upon your actions. You might want to send an email to his website and see if he agrees with your Fastpass give away option. Also, I'm sure you'll agree that Mike Eisner wouldn't approve either.:)

Fastpass does not help anything

i presented several scenarios down the list in "fastpass yes or no"

It does not save time.

1) If you say you can "visit small attractions" that you normally pass over....well, since you only get about 4 Fastpasses per day, you're going to be spending alot of time at the TOmorrowland Arcade and the Frontierland Shooting Gallery...oh, by the way- have fun at the 4 attractions you go on

2) If you visit major attractions without Fastpass- in this case you are virtually standing in line for "Splash Mountain" but alos standing in line for It's A Small World- hence, you're making Splash Mountains stand-by longer (for those standing in it) AND It's A Small World's...yoiu're standing in two lines making it longer for everyone

3) If you visit Splash, pick up a Fastpass- go to BTMRR to wait in line- the extra time you spend in BTMRRs line will make up and cancel out the time you save in Splash.

Once again- it does not save time- because the time you save in Fastpass lines- you make up for in longer stand-by lines (which you'll have to wait in because during very busy times- you'll only get probably three Fastpasses:
1-get fastpass at 930 for 1030-1130
2- get fastpass at 1130 for 330-430
3- fastpasses out by 230 for major attractions
4- spend rest of the day in stand-by.
