DLR is great ! But far from perfect ( some random thoughts after my trip)

First let me tell you some little things about myself, I'm french and have been to DLP countless times since it opened in 92. I suppose all of you guys know the sorry state DLP is in right now... It's become a sad place for me now. I just get depressed when I go there now.

Now I've been to WDW AND DLR so I'm able to compare all three. I came back from my first trip at DLR three days ago so it's all fresh in my mind :

- DLR is so full of rides it's incredible. It feels like you can stand at any point of the parks and see the entrance of a ride. RSR and IJA are INCREDIBLE.

- CMs while not as overtly "magical" as WDW, were amazing and incredibly helpful for my wife and me. Congrats to them. I did encounter a couple of rude ones but hey ... what do you want...

-Guests .... unfortunately we encountered so many . People that cut in lines, push, don't take care of their children, or are even just rude. A group of people made fun of my wife at the make-a-bear store because we didn't have a child with us. So what if my wife likes teddy bears and wants to bring a unique one home ? ...

- The parks ... are not the example of maintenance and cleanliness some people here seem to believe. In fact, the parks were disappointingly dirty. I saw so much trash in lines ... And some attractions look tired and are in dire need of a rehab (like Pinocchio). Feels like the park needs a new coat of paint in some areas too.

- Entertainment was GREAT ; so many characters in the streets, Paint the Night, World of Color and Disneyland Forever blew us away and my wife cried so much she felt dry after the shows !

I think I prefer WDW, because it might feel more like a vacation because of the weather and the closed environment + the Universal parks. But I'm definitely coming back and while I wasn't as impressed as I hoped, I really enjoyed my time there.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, glad you enjoyed yourself.

I agree about the park needing paint jobs and the trash issue. I can name at least several areas off the top of my head that need paint jobs bad. The trash issue is a fairly recent thing. I rarely saw trash in the parks, up until maybe a year ago. Don't know what's going on with that.

Agreed about entertainment, though I do miss Remember...

Disneyland is an attraction, and California is the destination. I hope you carved out some time to do other things in California on your trip.

Again, thanks for sharing.

Custodial's staffing budget was slashed just like every other department. Hashtag thanks Shanghai ;)

That actually makes sense.

I pick up trash whenever I see it around the park.
Thankfully people like you are there to pick up all the trash I keep dropping everywhere
I also smoke in non-smoking areas and fart while in line for rides

P.S. I do none of the above...ok, maybe one.

I think that the custodians do the best job they can. I feel bad for them. Most times, the parks are fairly clean. Sure, I've been there after the parade and fireworks let out and the ground in the hub and Main Street looks like a terrorist attack just occurred. People are slobs. But soon after the area clears out, the custodians get to work. It's difficult to clean up the queue lines when they're always congested with people.

When I was exiting Disneyland last month one evening, a CM stopped me to take a survey.
Many of the questions he asked me related to the cleanliness level of the Park and Cast experiences.
The way they were worded, it sounded like they had recently been getting a lot of feedback or complaints about litter and Cast.

I've taken a lot of surveys over the years in the Parks and online, but this particular one stood out because of the pinpoint questions regarding those two 'issues'.
I did note a lot of litter here and there ( mostly in Attraction queues ) but had good things to say about Cast.
DLR Cast have always treated me extremely well.

I've noticed this too. There's a real sense of entitlement and possessiveness that comes from some frequent visitors at DLR. This can easily come across as poor behavior if you're unprepared for it.

My most recent trip to DL was last year, and I agree with everything you said. I enjoyed it, but the 4 pm crowds and overall AP mentality were downers. Nevertheless, Carsland, Indy, and POTC are incredible! As @raven24 said, California is the main destination, with DL being a pleasant attraction along the way.

They literally made fun of her to her face? Who would do that? Were they joking around?

On one hand, we know custodial services have been cut back due to Shanghai's cost overruns. On the other hand, DL has thousands of teenage APs who visit several days a week because it's a place to hang out. I guess the combination of age and familiarity contribute to the willingness to toss trash anywhere.

To place that much blame on annual passholders isn't justified, in my opinion. This is a recent issue. Up until a year ago, the parks stayed very clean.

Trash in queues at dlr has been a phenom for years now. It's not pristine as some would advocate, but is not obnoxiously bad.

I have photos from. 2007 trip report on the very same topics... Trash in queues... Locals abusing gac.... Ignoring queue chains... General 'the rules don't apply to me' selfish behavior kind of stuff.

Trash isn't just an issue at Disneyland. It's been pretty bad here at WDW lately too. Every time I've visited the past number of months I've seen overflowing cans, garbage in ride vehicles, in the walkways, and in the queues. It's a shame people are so inconsiderate and messy.
